Benches are great as they are very cosey yet comfortable to sit on as well as having a lovely Monk flavour to the asethetic, you could just imagine Friar Tuck sitting at the table supping on Trappist Ale. The table has been hand crafted from the finest oak and is solid and chunky with no wobbles. The legs are hand turned and very chunky linking the stretchers to the bottom. The oak has a lovely patina to it, you can really see the quality to the grain of the wood, matched perfectly to the benches. The price is for both benches AND tables. Then of corse we have the set of 8 English oak spindle back chairs consisting of two arm chairs and six side chairs. They are the ultimate dining chair and have the flexibility to also suit the kitchen. I have a similar set in my dining room at home of which I have included a picture to give you an idea of how they look. They are hand woven rush seats too so they are very comfortable to sit on. They are very comforable and sturdy and are perfect for the everyday rigours of family life, withstanding the knocks of small children whilst taking the weight of adults for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. This set have just come back from the restorers where they had a repolish and the seats were re- woven with rush. The grain of the oak has a lovely finnish to it and the repolish has really accenuated the beautiful grain and burl of the wood - they have really come up a treat and are ready for use in your home immediately. The stretchers are lovely hand turned. The chairs are named spindle backs for obvious reasons and each one of the spindles would be hand turned so you can see the amount of time and craftmanship that has gone into the making of each individual chair. These will last for a long time and can be passed down from generation to generation and thus are a sound investmant. The distinctive barley twist legs are what give this table its name, hand carved as they are and depicting barley twists. Its a very solid and chunky table and would look equally at home in the kitchen as in the dining room. The oak has a lovely veneer to it and this has just benefitted from a polish at the restorers so it is ready for home use right away. To the side and the top are the hand carved mini-alcove designs all around the edge which also gives the table a refectory style. There is a lot of craftmanship gone into this fine specimen. The table is solid as an ox - chunky, wobble free, resiliant to everything a family can throw at it. We had a similar table when I grew up - it's still there. The legs are hand turned and chunky. A top sits the large eating surface in true refectory style and this is 8 feet long - and you can see how it comfortably sits eight people. Then we have the set of 8 William and Mary style high back chairs. Two arms and six sides. Description: You are viewing an incredible dining table hand crafted from walnut and with intricate marquetry inlay work made famous on the stretch of the Amalfi coast in Italy this was bought from. The table comes with the set of matching 8 chairs as shown in the picture. We can safetly say this is the ultimate dining set and would last you for many generations, hence becoming a great heirloom. I honestly hope the photos do this set some justice, it's certainly better in the flesh. When fully extended by the leaf system this seats 8 people more than comfortably and 10 easily. The table extends easily by the wind up mechanism where you insert the big handle in one hand (please see close up picture) and everything is of course provided. Perhaps the main feature of the table is the fantastic marquetry inlay work on all surfaces. The patterns and designs include flowers, vines, scrolls and leaves. If you consider the process to acheive this you can appreciate the skill, levels of craftmanship and time it would have taken. Each shape from the designs is cut from the softer fruitwoods (rose, apple etc) and then embedded into the main body of the walnut. You can see the walnut also is gorgeous and it has all just been repolished so the grain has come out. There are even marquetry inlay details on the sides of the table and to the octagonal legs. The legs are on wheels so this is easy to move around. This is a fine table, offered in perfect condition and ready for home use right away. Then of course we have the set of 8 matching chairs - including two arm chairs and six side chairs. The chairs are solid and sturdy and very comfortable to sit on with the cushioned red fabric seats. These have just been reupolstered so are free from any previous owners smells including pets and smoke, always a bonus. Look at the wealth of marquetry inlay work on the chairs - even on the legs and front. Breathaking. Plus the hand carved details like the shell motifs to the backsplat and legs and the cabriole bend. The chairs are solid and stable with no wobbles and very comfortable to sit in. Good luck. This table is outstanding and will last you for many generations to come and is the ultimate expression of loving hand care and hand crafting. The chairs are also offered in perfect condition ready.
