Lacking glass liner. Impressed maker''s marks under one foot ''WMF'', ''I/O'' (normal thickness of plating/gilding), and ''as'' (antique silver finish). Fair. One handle has broken away from the rim on both sides, the other handle has broken away on one side. Plating flaked from the handles and wing tips of the butterflies. Victorian, circa 1890 Staffordshire figure depicting a girl standing on a circular base entitled ''RED MAID. BRISTOL'' in black indented capitals. She is holding a basket in her left hand and is wearing the uniform of The Red Maids school in Bristol which consisted of a straw bonnet with a white linen shawl and apron worn over a red dress. This school, along with The Colston school and George Muller''s school, were founded in Bristol by philanthropists to care for the poor and orphaned. Decorated all round.
