What an interesting pair of sconces these are. They are simply lovely and impressive. The glass shades are circa 1920 - 1930 crackle glass. The shades are hand blown “art” form and are slightly different shapes and sizes. Each one fits its own sconce. Completely handmade shades...these are NOT perfectly balanced...nor matching perfectly shaped...just like an early Gothic presentation might be. The wall fixtures are a combination of steel and iron. Each has a decorative brass flourish at the bottom of the backplate, which adds a nice element of visual interest these pieces. Ready to go...nothing needs to be done except add the light bulb. These sconces have been completely rewired and are supplied with all the mounting hardware. Measurements: * Height: 19” overall. * Width: The widest width is measured at the shades which, depending on where you measure them, will vary. But a maximum of 7 ½" is about the widest. * Projection: 6 ¼" (approximate) from the wall into the room. * Backplate Measurements: ~18 ½" tall x 4" wide; ½" thick. Pair of unrestored wall sconces with original Leviton switches and cloth wiring. Each sconce has a matching shield that screws on. The original mica plates that separate the shield from the bulb are missing, as is common for items this old and rare. These are Tudor style or Art Nouveau style, possibly made by Gill Lighting Co. or Frankelight Co. Wall plates are 10" tall and shields are 8.5"tall. Just a fantastic pair of good looking sconces! While the color of Amberina glass is cast within the glass itself, here the color has been applied to the exterior of the shade with a lovely result. The solid brass backplates are finished in an antique hi/lo finish. These backplates are a profusion of lovely design elements, and do note that they seem to match the etched designs of shades. These project into the room more than most sconces of the 1920 to 1930 era. If you wish for sconces that make a bolder statement, these might be it! The cast backplates have a Hi/Low antique pewter finish with great design detail. The amber shades are really quite interesting. They are heavy cast glass with heavy embossed pattern designs. Edwardian Style Bronze/Brass Mythology Motif Sconces Pair of very nice, Edwardian style, larger-than-normal wall sconces. The large backplates are simply a plethora of classic design motifs. A pair of "God of the Wind" faces, and another mythological face adorn these lovely fixtures. The size and the details of these sconces work so well together...they really make a neat statement. There is some variation in the brass/bronze color between the arm and the backplate, as shown. This is due to the different casting methods. The backplate is just a touch more reddish than the arms, but all in all...a blending mix with the highlights of the backplate. The shades are cut glass, ruby reveal, cylinders...both of which are in very nice condition. Pair of LARGE Victorian Plaster Wall Sconces Circa 1880 This pair of very heavy, Victorian Plaster (with horse hair within) wall sconces, came from a Victorian building being demolished. Only one pair were available after all these years, as others had been replaced. Glad to preserve at least this one pair, which are very nice and rustic. These sconces have been rewired in our UL shop with replaced sockets using medium bulb bases. The originals were also candle style, so re-doing these was not an easy task. Our mold shop also went through these, and repaired some of the minor chips and 140 year old life experience mishaps. Our finishing department gave them the finish color that we found traces of...which is an old gold/bronze coloring. All in all...a real rehab project that came out rather nicely. A full mounting kit will be provided, so there will be nothing else to buy before mounting these impressive Victorian sconces.
