Decorated in the round with decoration to the front and the reverse. Open bottomed. This piece represents the intricacies of courtship during this period of history. The widow stands on a naturalistic ground with a baby strapped to her back, a young girl kneels on the ground in front of her. Decorated all round. Hollow underside with two vent holes. Fair. No hairlines. No chips. One flake to reverse and one to edge of Widow''s cloak. Some paint losses to the title border and Widow''s cloak. Kiln effects: two shrinkage cracks to base (one shows on underside), and another to Widow''s neck; a few touch marks around the base and one to edge of Widow''s cloak; kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the upper base edge. Restoration of Widow''s right arm and left hand, and the girl''s arms. Restoration to upper base, where originally there would have been a young boy holding twigs, and bottom of Widow''s cloak.
