Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of Louis Antoine Jullien (1812-1860), titled ''JULLIEN'' to the base front. Jullien was a French impresario and conductor who came to England in 1840 after much success in Paris. Depicts him standing on shaped base, his left hand holding an open book upon a music stand. He wears a shirt, bow tie, waistcoat, trousers and a cobalt tail coat. Arms molded free. Dull gilt decoration and title. Vent hole to underside. Shredded clay decoration to the ground and spill. Dull gilt around spill rim. No book reference found. Good. No cracks. Two tiny nicks to front lower base edge, not visible when upright. A few tiny chips to shredded clay to spill. No flakes. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: a few specks of kiln soot caught in the glaze to the top of the base.
