Classically elegant is this very large (approximately 19-1/2 inches by 15 inches by nine inches high)Wedgwood foot bath in finely molded creamware. With a large impressed WEDGWOOD mark and the impressed mark CBD, which I interpret to indicate an 1875 manufacture, it is decorated with a border of laurel leaves enameled in turquoise, the same shade used to highlight the scallop-shell handles and encircling borders. A simple dotted border is enameled in pale olive. It is excellent condition, with only minor chips on the underside of one handle and on the outside turquoise border; there is also an age crack at the bottom. So that the basin may be easily used as a jardiniere, an enameled liner has been made with lifting handles. « Less

Of an unusual small size, probably for travel, is this antique Chinese seal chest. All four sides and the top are carved with recessed central rectangular cartouches, and one side slides up to reveal three drawers to hold the collection of document seals and ink pot. The wood is lustrous East Indian rosewood (Pterocarpus indicus) stained to resemble zitan. A brass bale handle at the top serves for carrying the chest and each drawer has a small brass knob. Early Nineteenth Century, approximately four inches square and 4-1/2 inches tall, exclusive of the handle. Each drawer is 2-5/8 inches by 2-1/4 inches. The top and bottom drawers are 11/16 inches deep, while the middle one is one inch deep. « Less
