Streamline or Mid-Century Modern Design Nickel 8 Light Chandelier An interesting chandelier that is rather hard to date. Old it is...accurate...not so sure. It has elements of Streamline Deco, and it is...or was...European. This design crosses so many lines of decorative elements that it can be used in a myriad of ways. Measurements: * Height: 21" * Diameter: 16" This chandelier has been re-wired in our UL shop with American sockets for the eight arms, and also for the ONE center large bulb. Interesting that the arms take small opal shades that dictate a smaller bulb, while the bottom center socket is perfect for a decorative large globe, as we have installed. We are going to ship the chandelier complete with the center ball globe, which is an LED. The center globe is a bit brighter than the shades, since it is not filtered by the opal shades, but that is rather a neat effect. We will have more in the future for replacements. As mentioned, this chandelier has been completely re-wired in our UL shop, with new sockets and all new wire. This is a set of 6 upholstered swivel armchairs from Knoll International. These are verified original Eero Saarinen designed chairs from his original 1957 design. They have been expertly cleaned (base and shell) and have had the swivel refurbished with new inner bushings and lubricated. These were originally purchased in the mid 1970's. The upholstery on these is in good condition with no tears, rips or holes. There are a few stains on some and there is general wear as expected for a chair of this era. The cushions have good foam in them (not hardened), and the Velcro is intact. The chair shells have no cracks. The bases have a few chips on the outer rims, as expected from general use. The bottom of some of the chairs are missing sections of the nylon ring that was glued underneath. This would not be noticeable if the chair was on carpet. If you were to use these on a hard floor, I'd recommend adhesive felt. Three of these chairs have the upholstery wrapping around the rim of the chair shell and have a fabric strip glued to the underside of the shell. The other three chairs have the upholstery tucked under an outer shell. Please review the pictures for these details. These chairs will only be sold as a set, do not ask to split them up. I have many more pictures that show all angles of these chairs available to those that ask.I also have a YouTube video showing the entire set here, or ask for the link. See additional pictures here. His father, Eliel Saarinen, was an eminent Finnish architect who in 1932 became the first head of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in suburban Detroit. Art Deco 50s era acrylic chandeliers from the infamous Sabre Room in Hickory Hills, Illinois. Fascinating Mid Century Modern/Art Deco acrylic chandeliers that have a fascinating history. The Sabre Room of Hickory Hills was renowned for shows featuring Hollywood stars including Liberace, Johnny Carson, and Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra (1977)...as well as Elvis Presley and dozens of other well known performers. Opened in 1949 by Arnold and Marie Muzzarelli, the 100,000-square-foot hall featured a turbaned genie wielding a giant sabre on its outdoor sign, and stained-glass sabre decorations indoors. It became a Chicago area landmark. It also played host to Bob Hope and Rudy Vallee, and featured its own fleet of dancers called The Sabrettes who gained some notoriety on their own. Over the years, the hall (which could hold up to 2,500 guests) became a popular spot for weddings, quinceañeras, and New Year's Eve celebrations. It closed May 29, 2016 and plans called for its demolition since it was sitting on 30 acres of prime real estate for development. We originally purchased six of these fixtures, but two have since sold. Now we have FOUR of these chandeliers available that hung over the heads of many famous identities.
