Wind up key on bottom. Base has ornate design, top has ring so you can hang it. Music box having five 'bells-in-view' and playing Eight Airs on a 9 inch cylinder. The rosewood case has a floral inlay on the lid with boxwood borders. The lever wind movement has two controls on the right hand side of the box. The top lever controls the 'change/repeat' mechanism. The front lever controls the 'stop/start' mechanism. Swiss made circa 1880 by Ami Rivenc and bought at Harrod's in London in 1992. The music box measures 22"W x 12"D x 10"H.   « Less

Exceptional, vintage, marquetry inlaid wood, Swiss works, music box. I am not sure of the connection, but this fine cylinder music box, plays The Harry Lime Theme by the composer Anton Karas from the 1949 movie, "The Third Man", which re-united both the stars and director of "Citizen Kane". The marquetry is of an estate with a large and looming mansion in the distance which I thought might be the "Xanadu" of "Citizen Kane". In any case, this beautiful box is in "like new" original condition with fancy burl around the sides, small ebonized feet and original brass "piano" hinge. The musical works are marked "Lador" Switzerland. All original excellent working condition. 6" wide x 4" deep x 2 1/2" tall.   « Less
