ON SALE
WAS $4,995.
NOW $4,495.
Here is a rare 1740’s dated English mallet black glass wine bottle that has been silver mounted and converted into a table serving bottle in the mid 19th century. The silver mounting is exquisite. We have never seen finer! The silver mounting appears to date in the 1740 - 1750 period so “great grandpa’s old wine bottle was probably converted into a fine serving bottle about 100 years later! Quit possibly to preserve the memory of great grandpa.
The bottle measures about 10†tall overall. Both bottle and heavy solid silver mounting are in perfect condition. Even the original cork with silver top (some shrinkage) is still present! Seal reads “P R 1749†Base of bottle has deep kick-up and “sand pontilâ€. Color is deep olive-amber but more green than amber.

A real BLACK beauty is this early sealed mallet, circa 1730’s bearing the Hayward Family Crest! About 8†tall with sheared lip, string rim, deep base kick-up and large pontil scar. Nice old note on base dated 1/12/13. (see photo).
Quedgeley House, the Hayward Family Homestead, was actually built in the late 1700’s. Prior to that the Haywards occupied Woolstrop Manor, located nearby.
William Hayward purchased Woolstrop Manor in 1670. This bottle was most probably made for Thomas Hayward (William’s son) who took possession of Woolstrop Manor in 1732.
This important sealed wine bottle has a hard to notice chip at the edge of the seal, otherwise mint!

ON SALE WAS $3,995.
Here is a great rarity; a large blown Russian glass 18th century case bottle with an applied seal. Beautiful light emerald glass with lots of tiny seed bubbles and striations of golden amber that appear blue in reflected light (see photos)! Made by the German half-post method. The second gather is right up to the neck’s base. Nice crude applied and tooled lip. Base has a 1” kick-uo with open pontil. About 11” tall x 5” across the base. The applied seal bears the Cyrillic initials "PK" in script. We have not identified it as yet. Some research may prove very interesting.
Truly outstanding condition with only some inner stain. Exterior has full surface gloss with a lovely soft gloss patina (bloom). No damage! This appears to be a river find and there is still traces of river mud around the seal and around the pontil scar. The bottle has lots of character with the seed bubbles, striations and whittle and will make a fine addition to any advanced collection of early black glass.
Note: This may be the only intact example of the rare bottle. We corresponded with a collector in Russia years ago that had another that he believed to be the only example. His was severely damaged.
It was probably manufactured at the Orlov Royal Glass House.
