Victorian, circa 1860 Miniature Circa 1860 Alphabet & Roman Numerals Sampler. Unframed. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Simple line border. Colour is black throughout. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, and Roman numerals. No signature or date. Single cross motif. Very Good. No holes. A couple of stain specks and a stain line to the centre. Uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses. Colour is good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. 4ins by 4.75ins wide   « Less

Circa 1830 c.1830 Silkwork Sampler by E.B. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering fruit border. Colours olive green, cream, pale blue, dark brown, pink, black and gold. Verse titled ''ON TIME'' reads ''Oh sacred time, how soon thou art gone,> How swift thy circling minutes run:> Oh time, thou chiefest wordly good> If we employ thee as we should> And yet how few thy value know> But think these troublesome and slow.> Motion and rest . fill up our time> And little oh my soul : is thine> we eat, we drink, we sleep, and then> We rise to do the same again:> Young lydia prudent was and fair> Was all that virtuous woman are> And yet how soon her glass was run> How short her fatal thread was spun> Oh then my friends let us be wise> No more the bounteous gift despise> But use it for the end twas given> And prove we''re candidates for heaven''. Signed with initials ''E.B''. A good set of motifs, including fruit baskets, birds, flowers, crowns, diamonds, a heart and trees. Good. A number of small holes. Some losses along the top and bottom edge. Several stains and slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Very minor stitch loss to the verse. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16ins by 12.25ins wide   « Less

Antique Early American sampler. This antique sampler measures 28 inches by 19 inches. Designs include birds, butterflies, flowers, rabbits, vases of flowers, roosters, urns, and the alphabet. It is signed LP inside a wreath. The colors are still clear and bright. No tears. The classical urns and lyres are true Federal period icons. For sale is an early sampler, dated 1833 and signed by Annette? Maria Richards. The first name is difficult to read, but the last two are definete. The sampler features five rows of alpha and numeric characters on top, with a house and floral arrangements on the bottom. The middle has nothing, likely unfinished. The entire piece measures 19"x 17 1/2". There is a little discoloration and minor rolling of the fabric, but no major damage and good overall condition. A simple ordinary frame. There is cardboard over the back.   « Less

For sale we have a 19th Century sampler. Frame measurements are about 18 1/2"x 19". There is some staining, especially around the borders and stitch loss. Two full ABC's span the top and the bottom has flowers, trees and a house. The middle has various marriages (the wording is incomplete). Names include Nathan, Sarah, Julia but the last names are hard to decipher. We don't see an actual date. The back has a brown paper. Nice Americana   « Less

This early sampler comes from a New England (Broadbrook, Connecticut) farm house. The work was done in 1838 by Sarah Grimley. There is a lot going on with the alphabet on the bottom, name on top and a myriad of pictorials including carved eagle crest, house, flowers, and trees. There is staining throughout and a little loss in the letter Y in the word year. Overall condition I would rate a B- to C+. The nice old maple frame makes the measurements 17 1/2"x 18". The back has a brown paper over it. A good piece of New England history and Americana.   « Less
