Raised number ''1'' to undersides. Painted mark to underside of right facing. Good. Right facing: No restoration. Slight rubbing to gilt. Kiln effect: black glaze is thinly applied in places. Left facing: Small firing crack to front left paw. Some rubbing to gilt. Repaired crack running from right ear, across the neck, down the chest and over back to above the tail. Part of the crack branches out behind the left ear, the top of which is still just visible as a tight hairline. Retouched left eye. 12.25ins high « Less

Circa 1890 Large Majolica Palissy ewer and cover. Ewer featuring a large lizard handle, two beetles and a moth molded around the neck. Two further lizards, a crocodile, beetle and snail to the main body. Lizard forming the finial to cover. All applied onto green mossy ground. Cream glaze to interior and base of ewer, and underside of cover. Three stilt marks to underside of ewer and cover flange. Generally good. Ewer: Flaking to moss tips. Flake to snail shell and hind leg of one beetle on the neck of ewer. Flaking to the base and associated with stilt marks. One leg missing from each beetle on the neck of ewer. One antennae missing from the moth and beetle lower down. Kiln effect: shrinkage crack to tail of the smallest lizard. Repair to body of the smallest lizard, and restoration of its head.
