Years of loving care went into the creation of this elaborate Victorian-Edwardian three-panel floor screen, alive with royalty and schoolboys, statesmen and famous beauties, horses, cats and dogs. Politics mingles with sentimentality and history in a panorama that seems to begin around 1880 and sweep into the early Twentieth Century. Decorated on both sides, each panel is approximately 66-3/4 inches tall and 26-5/8 inches wide, around 80 inches fully opened. Created in the famed Berlin workshop of Gerhard Dagly, this elegant set of boxes and their coffer in "vernis martin" bears a graceful chinoiserie moonlight scenes of quaint buildings, rocks and plants, with Chinese-style diaper patterns on the sides and a delightful "yin-yang" brass closure. The "moon" on the front of the coffer is a disk of mother-of-pearl. A truly superb item for a sophisticated collector! Coffer is approximately eight inches by 6-1/2 inches by two inches high; boxes are around 3-1/2 inches by 2-3/4 inches by 1-3/8 inches. German, end of the Seventeenth Century.   « Less

The pride of the 1930's Matson Line was the luxury Liner "Lurline" (named for the Matson's daughter). These cabinets, removed when the craft was renovated as a troop ship in 1942,came from the saloon of the ship and are fashioned of walnut and maple, with finely carved boxwood panels on each door. Weighing an impressive 24-1/2 pounds Troy, this five-piece tea and coffee service is stately but reserved. It was made for England's Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Company and bears the sterling hallmarks for London, 1934. A fifth, purely voluntary mark, the profiled heads of King George V and Queen Mary, pays tribute to the Jubilee Year. The tray, a hefty five pounds alone, is approximately 14 inches by 16-3/4inches. The teapot is approximately 10 inches by 4-1/4 inches by 6-1/2 inches tall, the coffee pot is about 6-3/4 inches by 2-3/4 inches by 7-1/2 inches tall, the sugar bowl is around six inches by 2-3/4 inches by 3-1/2 inches tall and the the cream jug is about five inches by 1-1/4 inches by four inches tall.
