Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire figures of a young boy and girl each standing beside an oversized, russet and white Afghan Hound. Well decorated with feathered russet markings. Old, dull gilt decoration and base line. Good creamy glaze with strong blue tinge. Vent hole to reverses. Similar pair illustrated figures 2221/2222, page 143, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Cover exterior decorated with a cruel dragon on top and Greek key border around the edge. Cream interior with a coiling dragon to the base center. Cream glaze to underside with Wedgwood ''Portland vase'' maker''s mark, ''WEDGWOOD ENGLAND'' and pattern number Z4616. Good. No restoration. Box: Slight rubbing to gilt. Boy: Flake to reverse of hind right leg. A few paint losses to the ground. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effect: crazing. Repaired crack along the mold join over the boy''s head and down both arms. Pre-Victorian, circa 1820 Staffordshire Pearlware figure of Mark Antony modeled in a recumbent pose on a rocky, floral base. He is wearing a chain mail tunic, and is holding his sword underneath him. Decorated all round. Hollow underneath. Based on the play ''Antony and Cleopatra'' by William Shakespeare. It is based on real events of ancient times, a tragedy and also a story of passionate love. It tells the story of an affair between Mark Antony, one of the three who rule Rome after the assassination of Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Good. A few small flakes to his toes. Flake to edge of cloak and left index finger. Kiln effect: fine shrinkage line to neck and left leg. Repaired shrinkage crack to reverse of right foot.
