For sale I have a lovely piece of glass made in England that was made in the latter part of the Nineteenth or Early Twentieth Century. It is known as "Bristol Glass" and the More »
For sale I have a lovely piece of glass made in England that was made in the latter part of the Nineteenth or Early Twentieth Century. It is known as "Bristol Glass" and the shape is a Vase. The Vase measures 10" tall and is 3 3/8" in diameter at the rim and 3 1/2"in diameter at the base.
The Vase depicts a Lovely Arrangement of Various Flowers hand painted on the front of it. It has a stem full of Bluebells and a Cream Colored Rose in the foreground. There are a couple of Daisies and Babies Breath finished off with various Leaf Clusters and Reed Style Leaves or Grass. The color tones the Artist used are soft and pleasing. This type of glass was very popular during the Victorian Era. This is all set on a satin white background glass. There is a crimped edge at the top rim that is accented with Gold Enamel at the indentations.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. These type vases were extremely popular as they were imported from England and Sold for affordable amounts. Usually when they are found there is damage. These Vases are extremely light in weight and are very Fragile. The Vase is unsigned but you can see the rough Pontil Scar on the bottom. This is typical of Bristol Vases. They didn't take the time to polish and counter sink them. This took too much time and was to costly.
This piece was made Circa 1860-1910.

For Sale I have a Lovely Vase made by The Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, PA. The Vase is in a very desirable Shape. I would call this Shape a "Ruffled Gourd" with "White Frit" Decoration Vase. The Vase is a Good Size as it stands 6 3/8" tall and is 5" in diameter. It has also been brought to my attention that this was called a Celery Vase. In period catalogs it is indistinctly called Venetian, Pompeian, or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period. The Vase Displays that ever Popular Cobalt Blue Glass with a Tri-fold Fluted Ruffled Edge. What I mean by this there are 3 Petals that Flair out and over and 3 Rising upwards. The entire border is ruffled very nicely. What makes this an interesting piece is before they executed the Bending and the ruffling is they rolled it in a White Frit Glass Power while the Vase was hot. This picked up the Glass pieces and then it was put back in the oven and fired and the White Frit became part of the Vase. Looking at the top of the Vase they did a Horizontal almost ribbon like edge with the body of the base being done in a vertical direction. You can feel the glass in it.The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned as is the case with these pieces. This method reminds me a little bit some of the LCT Tiffany Favrile Cypriote Glass ewxamples. This is a quality piece of early American Art Glass. This piece was made very early, circa 1898-1906. There is documentation that this was a design in the 1898 Catalog of The National Glass Company in which Thomas Dugan was a Partner. The Dugan Glass Company Came into being 1902-1906.` « Less

For Sale I have a very pretty piece of glass made by the Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania. The shape is a Pinched Rose Bowl and the pattern is Venetian, Pompeian, or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period.. The Rose Bowl measures approximatel 4 1/16" tall and is 3 15/16" wide.
The Rose Bowl has a base color of Aqua decorated with vertical ribs of Whie and Iridized Gold Frit. This technique was introduced by Dugan and was meant to compete with the the great Czech glass houses of the Art Nouveau period. The Rose Bowl was mold made and put back in the oven and fired and the White and Gold Frit became part of the Vase. Frit is little pieces of glass that were put back in the oven with the form however there is a slight variation in the composition of the particles making it possible to use as a surface decoration without completely blending and melting into the piece being worked on. You can actually feel it on the surface of the glass.
The Rose Bowl is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned as is the case with these pieces.
This method reminds me a little bit some of the LCT Tiffany Favrile Cypriote Glass examples. This is a quality piece of early American Art Glass. There is documentation that this was a design in the 1898 Catalog of The National Glass Company in which Thomas Dugan was a Partner. The Dugan Glass Company Came into being 1902-1906. « Less

For Auction I have a lovely Vase made by The Durand Glass Company of Vineland, NJ. The Vase is a very pleasing size as it is known as a Cabinet Vase and it is done in their "Gold Lustre" style of Art Glass. The Shape would be considered a Tapered Shoulder Vase. The Vase stands 4 5/8" tall and is 2 1/2" in diameter at the shoulder. The Vase displays a wonderful Matte Gold Aurene, Favrile Iridescence. The Color is just outstanding. You can see matte Purples, Blues and some Fuchsia Color Tones. The Base Glass appears to be a clear glass. The Iridescence on this Vase emits an Amber Glow when looking inside. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks or chips to the piece. The Top Rim is polished and smooth. The Vase Does Not have a polished countersunk Pontil. The top being flat and polished means that this piece was blown from the top and cut there, then polished smooth. The bottom side of the vase is extremely nice and shows minimal signs of wear. There is Strong Fuchsia in the middle with strong blue highlights around the bottom rim. There are teeny, tiny flea spots along the rim. This is Factory and not Damage as these are common with pieces cut from the top. The piece is unsigned but it appears to be shape number 1722 in Durand's Catalog pages. Durand Art Glass starting blowing the Iridescent Fancy Wares in 1924. This was when The Quezal Art Glass Company of Brooklyn, New York went out of business. Durand bought all the existing Inventory and acquired many of the Molds that Quezal used. Martin Bach Jr and a few of the employees of Quezal migrated to Durand and set up shop. Durand was making this Art Nouveau Glass for only a short time as Victor Durand died in 1931 from complications from an Automobile Accident. When he died, so did the Fancy Shop. Durand Art Glass in the iridescent Gold's and Blues is somewhat Rarer than his Contemporaries of the day like L.C.T. Tiffany Favrile, Steuben Aurene, and Quezal. They were in business for much more than 7 years. This is a Quality piece of Art Glass that you don't commonly see. So purchase with Confidence as I'm sure this will enhance one's Art Glass Collection. This is a Rare Cabinet Size from Durand. You collectors of Durand do not let this one pass you by. This piece was made circa 1924-1931. « Less

For sale I have a Lovely Art Glass Vase Blown by The Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio. This Pattern line was called "Freehand" and "Lead Lustre". The Vase is a good size as it stands 6 1/2" tall and is 4 1/2" at the shoulder. The Top opening is 3" in diameter at its widest point.
The Vase displays a very pleasing shape as I would call it a Classic Grecian Urn Shape and was probably the most popular shape in Art Glass Vases. The wide flaring mouth is very thin and delicate. The Pumpkin Orange Iridescence on Calcite White base glass gives this a European Flavor in color but it is definitely American. This is also known as cased glass. This is somewhat a rare color to find this vase as it is more commonly found in the Blue Iridescence. The Mirror like finish is the Trademark of Imperial Lead Lustre Line.
The Vase is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are signs of use as there are several areas around the Vase that show the white base glass coming through. These show up as very small white dots and a few areas have elongated white coming through. This is common on the Lead Lustre Line. These Vases didn't fare well when rubbed against other objects. The Vase is unsigned but it does display a counter sunk Polished Pontil, the mark of a quality piece of Hand Blown Art Glass. These more than likely had a Paper Label that simply fell off over time. This Vase is still considered to be a very nice example and it is in a much rarer Color.
This piece was from Imperial's "Freehand Lustre Line" of Art Glass. In my research I read that Imperial also tried to lure Steuben Aurene and Tiffany Favrile Glass blowers into their shop with enticing employment offers. Some of these workers migrated as well. This Vase was made Circa 1923-1925 as Imperial's Freehand Lustre Line was only in existence for 3 years. This is a quality piece of Art Glass and I am sure the buyer will not be disappointed.
The Bright whites spots you see are reflective camera glaze. The iridescence in this Vase is like a Mirror. If you look real close you can see the camera in the reflection!! « Less

For Sale I have a Lovely Jack in the Pulpit Art Glass Vase. I believe this Vase to have been made in the Stourbridge Area of England. The Vase is a Nice Cabinet Size as it stands 8 1/4" tall. The Face of the Pulpit or Flower is 5 1/4" in diameter and the foot has a diameter of 3 1/8". This Jack in the Pulpit displays a wonderful Vaseline Green Body that Glows under a Blacklight. The Pulpit has a wonderful Teal Green Opalescent Face that resembles a Pansy Flower. There is lots of bubbles in the glass. This is the sign of the very early Jack in The Pulpit Vases. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There isn't even a Flea Nick. The piece is unsigned and has a rough Pontil Scar from when the Vase was removed from the Blowing Pipe. This is also a sign of early glass. This is a wonderful Vase and I sure the buyer will be very pleased with their Purchase. This Vase was made in the late 1800's, Circa 1895-1899. « Less

For Auction I have a very hard to find piece of Art Glass made by the Jefferson Glass Company of Steubenville, Ohio. The shape is a Jack in the Pulpit Bride's Vase and it is More »
For Auction I have a very hard to find piece of Art Glass made by the Jefferson Glass Company of Steubenville, Ohio. The shape is a Jack in the Pulpit Bride's Vase and it is made in Vaseline or Canary glass. The Vase measures approximately 11 3/4" tall when resting in the metal Base. It is approximately 4" wide at the flare of the rim.
The Vase depicts the woodland flower form of the Jack-in-the-Pulpit or Calla Lily that rest in a metal frame that is Silver Plated I believe as it is somewhat tarnished however has no markings. The Jack-in-the-Pulpit form became very popular in the Art Nouveau or Victorian era and carried through from 1880-1914 and several glass companies experimented with this form to compete with the popularity of Tiffany Studios Favrile stemware for dinner parties of the rich. The peak of the flower is slightly twisted and adds character to the vase. The bottom of the stem was cut from the mold and polished and beveled. This rests comfortably into a small metal frame with curled legs and almost reminds me of wrought iron.
The Vase is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no chips, crack, nicks or dings. This is remarkable as this vase is over 100 years old. It does have some light surface scratches on the inside from being used and cleaned to get the calcium deposits removed. There is still some dirt in the bottom of the Vase but I'm sure it will come out by the new owners efforts. I just don't have something that narrow or long to fit down the neck of the vase.
There are no markings however I have done quite a bit of research and all efforts lead to Jefferson Glass Company. This company was in business from 1900-1933. They only produced this type of Opalescent Vaseline Glass from 1900-1906. There are very few examples that have survived and there is very little information on them. There is a book by David A Peterson named "Vaseline Glass:Canary to Contemporary" and has written that "Jefferson produced some of the finest Vaseline Glass during the early part of the 20th Century.
According to Peterson, Jefferson's canary opalescent Vaseline was made for only 3 years from 1903-1905. « Less

For Sale I have an Outstanding Vase made by Wilhelm Kralik Sohn of Eleonorenhain Bohmen (Bohemia) which is now the modern day "Czech Republic". I call this Pattern "Blue Waves" and It is very similar to a Loetz Phanomen decoration. The Vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 1/4" tall and is 3 5/8" in diameter at the base. The top has a diameter of 2" outside diameter. The Vase display a wonderful Wave Pattern that is done in a Blue Glass. The main or base color of the Glass is Clear and it has wonderful deep rich Textured Gold Iridescence. The Texture of the Gold iridescence runs vertical cal along with the Waves running horizontally give this piece a Striking Appearance. The Shape is European all the way. It resembles a Gourd with an extended Flared Neck. When unlit the iridescence glows as you can see beautiful Purples, Blues and Fuchsia. The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Vase is not signed but it does have a wonderful nicely polished top rim and No polished Pontil. All vases are blown from the top. Pontil marks have nothing to do with which end of the glass it was blown from. The pontil is from the punty rod being attached when a piece had to go into the glory hole for additional work IE finished rim or additional decoration. This decoration has kind of a Deco Style to it. If you collect works of Austrian Jugendstil Art Nouveau glass, or American Art Glass by Tiffany and Steuben, please consider this work of art. This Vase will certainly become a conversation piece for discussion. This is a quality piece of Art Glass and I'm sure the Buyer will not be disappointed. This Vase was made Circa 1905-1920. « Less
