Exquisite antique nude bronze ballerina inscribed Prof Poertzel. She is beautifully sculptured with perfect proportions, gorgeous face, and wonderful animation as she stands on one toe dancing. She measures 11 inches high including her original marble base. Excluding the base she measures 8 inches high. Her hands are extended away from her body and they measures 4-1/4 inches from hand to hand. Weight 3 lbs. The bronze has a lovely light golden brown patina and is in excellent condition. Extraordinary gilt and silvered bronze fantasy sculpture depicting a nude winged gilt bronze fairy pulling the hair of a gilt bronze satyr who has the body of a snail coming out of a snail shell. In her other hand she holds a silvered bronze grape vine. The snail shell is very naturalistic. Her expression and the composition of this extraordinary sculpture are beyond belief. It is signed Ferville-Suan (Charles Georges Ferville-Suan 1847-1925). This amazing French sculptor created one of the most unusual and beautiful mythological fantasy sculptures that I have seen in my more than 45 years as a collector, a dealer, buyer, seller, and appraiser of rare antique bronze sculpture. This extraordinary sculpture is from my own collection and has never been for sale on the internet before. The base is terracotta. Magnificent rare and beautiful bronze sculptured merchildren, mask heads, lion paw footed decorative centerpiece with 4 stylized Horns of Plenty. This is a beautiful and very rare item. The central portion has a lovely lady's high relief sculptured bronze face. She has flowers in her hair and a wreath below her head. On each side of her are two stylized sculptured Horns of Plenty filled with fruits. Above the horn of plenty sits two merchildren. They have human form to their wastes but then become fish like with tails instead of feet. The base of the centerpiece has high relief carved lion paw feet. All the bronze work is attached to a carved marble variegated rose colored center. This is one of the most unusual centerpieces we have had the pleasure to purchase and offer for sale. It dates from the late 19th century circa 1880s. The merchildren have beautiful faces and are very sweet. This monumental centerpiece measures 15-1/4 inches to the top finial. The merchildren measure 6-1/2 inches from the bottom of their tails to the top of their heads. Widest width 8-1/4 inches. Weight 25 lbs. The bottom section on one of the lion paw feet is numbered 7212. This is a wonderful mythological inspired centerpiece in excellent condition. Rare gilt bronze and alabaster sculpture of a nude Lorallie By The Sea. Here Lorallie is depicted nude seated on a large stone. Her musical instrument in has a turtle shell shaped design. A bird rests in her right hand. This is a beautiful composition inscribed Angles. Joaquin Angles was born in Toulouse in the 2nd half of the 19th century. He exhibited at the Salons from 1890 to 1899, winning an honorable mention in the latter year. His works include Idyll (1890), and Gavroche (street urchin) in 1892. Beautiful gilt bronze nude lady on a horseshoe signed Recipon, and stamped with the Susse Fres Editeurs Paris Foundry seal. The title of this sculpture by George Recipon is Le prote-bonheur ou La Chance. George Recipon was an important French sculptor 1860-1920. He studied with Dumont and Francais, and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1879. In 1888 he became an Associate of Artistes de Francais an thereafter exhibited at the salon winning a medal in 1890 and a first class medal in 1901. Also had honorable mentions and silver medal at the Expositions of 1889 and 1900 respectively, and received Legion d'Honneur in the latter year. He was not only a sculptor but also a painter. He sculptured classical subjects notably the 2 bronze Quadrigae on the Palace of fine arts and the Nymphs representing the Seine and the Neva on the Pont Alexandria III in Paris. This exact model, only without a silvered horseshoe just the gilt bronze nude on a bronze horseshoe, sold at Sotheby's Paris February 23, 2005 lot #197 realized $6,023.00. Our model is the deluxe version with a gilt bronze nude and a silvered bronze horseshoe. The composition depicts a beautiful nude gilt bronze lady with a hammer in her right hand and horsehoe nail in the left. She's getting ready to hammer in the nail. Recipon made this is two sizes. She stands on one foot juggling 3 knives with both hands and one foot. She has a bracelet with a bell and a belt with bells. This is a very animated sculpture, she looks alive as she dances and juggles the knives. Her head is bent to one side focusing carefully on the knife in her right hand. This is an extremely rare sculpture the only one we have seen in our more than 45 years specializing in antique bronze sculptures, antiques, paintings, decorative arts and jewelry. She is dancing on a gorgeous polished base that looks like ribbon agate or onyx. She measures 19 inches high from the bottom of the base to the top of her hand. Not including the original base, the juggler measures 15-3/8 inches to the top of her hand. The base measure 4-1/4 inches wide by 4-1/4 inches deep, and 3-3/4 inches high. From her back to the tip of her toe balancing the knife she measures 8 inches. From her right to left hand she measures 10 inches. Beautiful antique large bronze sculpture depicting Diana with her bow and arrow quiver. Artist signed Paul Jean Baptiste Gasq, also enscribed Copyright 1906 by Lapointe. She is running while carrying her bow high in the air. At her feet, a large bird of prey that she has just hunted. She measures 32 inches high, 20-1/2 inches wide from bow tip to bow tip. Widest width from her right foot to the bird's wing measures 22 inches. Weight 62 lbs. The bow in her hand unscrews from both sides allowing this rare bronze to be safely shipped. Paul Jean Baptiste Gasq was born in Dijon on May 31, 1860. He studied at the Dijon School of Fine Arts and the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris under Jouffroy and Hiolle. He won the Prix de Rome in 1890 and a Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. He became a member of the Institut in 1935. He specialized in figures and bas-reliefs of classical and allegorical subjects.This is his largest sculpture of Diana showing great motion in the composition.
