Large Chinese Export Famille Rose Circular Dish, Circa 1760. The dish has a central reserve in the shape of a palm leaf that is outlined in an over-glaze turquoise enamel. ;A large floral spring of rose-pink peonies and other flowers lie within the reserve. ;The border is painted with numerous branches and blossoms of white prunis and brown bamboo; all against ground of sepia swirls. ;Rimmed in ocher. The white enamel was an important element in the famille rose palette, for it made possible the mixing of shades of opaque colors through which three-dimensional effects of modeling in the Western style could be obtained.'' The ultimate Art Deco partial dresser set, consisting of a box and hand-mirror. Made in Austria, 1920''s. Measurements: Box is 6 1/2 inches in length; 2 3/8 inches high; 4 1/4 inches back to front. Mirror is 11 7/8 inches long; 5 1/4 inches wide. Made of bronze with gilding, enamel and marcasite decoration. The box has it''s original, fitted glass liner, which is extremely thick and heavy and has two round indentations on one rim, possibly to aid in lifting it out of the box. The mirror has it''s original, bevelled glass. Rectangular box. The sides are moulded in a fabulous pattern of stylised lotus and scrolls, reflecting the interest in Egyptian Revival themes during the Art Deco period. The linearity and geometric nature of the pattern further reflects the Art Deco style. The background to the pattern is stippled/hand-beaten in contrast to the smoothe, raised texture of the pattern. The borders of the sides are raised beadwork in different sizes and forms. A scalloped thumbpiece makes opening the lid easy. The top of the lid is exquisite and a tour-de-force of enamelling techniques. A narrow white enamel and gold, scalloped double border. Within, two rounded rows of cobalt blue enamelling on a gold ground. The corners, applied with gilded, moulded foliage. The main ground of the lid is covered in superb guilloche enamel of a golden-orange colour and a variety of engine-turned patterns under the enamelling. The center is like the ripples on a pond, radiating outwards, while the outside is a tight geometric arrangement. The lid is applied with a superb enamel and marcasite flower arrangement. Deep blue flowers with gold outlines and marcasite stamen and stems, with bright green foliage, stand out strongly against the orange background and are contained by the cobalt blue of the border. The Egyptian Revival theme is echoed here again, with the stylised flowers. The bottom of the box is patterned gilt. The mirror shows the same patterns and decoration as the box. The bottom corners and arch of the upper curve on the back are applied with scrolling gilt metal decoration and the join of handle to mirror (a bit loose) is held within a beautiful gilt housing. It has been suggested that the lighter colouring of the bottom foliage might be due to a restoration, but if so, it has been so well done, that there are no marks of it having been worked on. Marks: an incised AUSTRIA on the housing of the handle of the mirror. Generally, condition is fabulous. There is some discoloration on the gilding underneath the box. Glass insert and mirror are both original and in very good condition with no discoloration, chips/cracks. Rectangular stone with canted corners. The stone is a wonderful, bright cornflower blue, faceted to maximise the wonderful colour and sparkle. It is set in a fabulous seting with various forms of decoration: green enamel with red detail; ropetwist borders of gold, luxurious, full fluted back and a shank with raised flowers. Bows on the shoulders in bright pink gold; the canted corners with moulded swirling shapes. Top quality workmanship. Hallmarked inside shank with an engraved C inside a diamond and 14k. Weighs 17.4grams. 9 large, oval amethysts, facet cut around a flat top, with lovely deep violet colour. Colette set in gold bands with filigree borders. Stones protrude from links of finest gold filigree in a spider web design. Each link joined to it''s neighbours on either side, by 3 tightly set hinges. Secure clasp as well as gold safety chain. Antique, Art Nouveau / Art Deco ladie''s bag / purse. Gilded, Sterling silver set with genuine sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls and other gemstones. Made in Germany, late 19th to early 20th century. Approximately 9 inches accross widest part. Weighs approx 265grams. Cloth bag with flowers, fruit and foliage in pretty shades of pinks and quiet greens on a golden/beige ground. The inside has a peach silk lining in excellent condition with pockets on either side for holding compact or comb. The frame of the bag is exceptional: A central basket of fruit with doves on either side in an octagonal reserve. On either side is a gorgeous nude half figure of a woman, her body tapering to a cornucopia. Surrounded by garlands of flowers, set with gemstones. We tested the stones with a modern, electronic tester and they are a mixture of various genuine stones - many sapphires, rubies, emeralds and also other stones such as topaz etc. The reverse side of the bag has the identical design, but is not set with stones. The bag is opened / closed with a clasp (push it in) that is set with a very large cabochon sapphire. THe terminals at either end also each contain a large cabochon sapphire. One side of the frame has engraved STERLING SILVER GERMANY. Despite some signs of age, the bag and frame are in good condition. I did not find any missing stones. Antique, Art Deco earrings made of diamonds and carved jade set in platinum mounts. Circa 1920-30''s. Measurements: 1 1/2 inches long. Weigh 5.8 grams. Small Platinum domes, set with diamonds sit on the ear. These suspend a series of collet-set diamonds, joined by loops, thus allowing the entire bottom portion of the earrings to swing as the wearer moves. A foliage and filigree platinum clasp encloses jade rings/circles. Jade is a beautiful colour, not quite uniform (as can be seen in the highly magnified ''photos), but rare and desireable. The carving is very fine and depicts dolphins/fish, scrolls and flowers. Good condition. No damage/restoration found. Fabulous antique, Art Deco filigree 14k gold and jade - like green chrysoprase necklace. Made in America, circa 1930. Length from end to end (with chain doubled), is 10 3/4 inches. Weighs 25grams. Necklace combines superb Art Deco design with top quality workmanship. Gold filigree chain - very finely shaped, floral themed links with scrolls and fans. Alternate with sturdy smaller flattened rings with simple tripart surface. A jade green ring at the base of the neck from which another 3 links suspend a marvellous carved pear-shape in the same jade green shade. The clasp is extremely secure and from the top looks exactly like the other links - a sure sign of great quality workmanship. Necklace combines the fine and the bold in a wonderful statement that looks even better when worn. Hallmarked 14K and has a maker''s mark. Very good, original condition. No damage of any sort. Antique Art Deco white gold and rock crystal bracelet. Made 1920''s. Measurements: Weighs 10.2 grams. 7 1/4 inches long. Gorgeous Art Deco design combining high quality workmanship: Bracelet consists of rectangles of graded sizes joined by decorated belt-like loops. Each rectangle has a square loop by which it is joined to the next segment. There are two kinds of decoration on the rectangles: the smaller pieces with slightly concave, rounded sides have extremely fine filigree patterns. Gold studs in the design catch and play with light, in immitation of diamonds or other gemstones. The 3 larger rectangles have similar filigree openwork patterns around the borders, but the rectangular reserves are set with rock crystal, cut with a radiating, sunburst like design and set in the center with a colette mounted gem. The middle stone is a diamond (tested to be genuine). The green stones on the sides were not identified. 14k gold confirmed by testing. Good condition with no damage of any sort.
