Silver Antoninianus of Emperor Gordian III - C.4911 Origin: Mediterranean Circa: 240 AD to 244 AD Collection: Numismatics Style: Roman Medium: Silver Gordianus III, the thirteen-year old grandson of Gordianus I was proclaimed emperor by the Praetorian Guard after they murdered Balbinus and Pupienus. Gordian appointed the wise and good Timestheus as Praetorian Prefect. Under the counsel of Timestheus, Gordian ruled well and became quite popular. The Roman Empire had peace and stability during his reign, which was rare during the Third Century A.D. In 241, the Persian King Ardashir died, and his son Shapur immediately began making trouble for Rome by invading Syria. The next year, Gordianus and his army went to deal with Shapur and won several victories in battle against the ruthless Persian. Timestheus died of an illness in 243 and Philip the Arab became Gordian's Praetorian Prefect in his place. Philip was not the loyal friend that Timesthius was, taking great pains to make the soldiers dislike Gordianus by bringing about a shortage of supplies and blaming it on Gordianus' inexperience. On February 25, 244, Gordianus was murdered while campaigning in the East with the army by forces loyal to Philip.   « Less

The top of the ladle has a 3 letter monogram MGF. The ladle measures 7-1/8 inches from the bottom of the ladle bowl to the top of the handle. Widest width of the ladle bowl is 2-7/8 inches. Sphero-Conical Vessel with Stamped & Incised Decoration - AMD.39, Origin: Central Asia, Circa: 12 th Century AD to 13 th Century AD, Dimensions: 6.7" (17.0cm) high, Collection: Islamic Art, Style: Islamic, Medium: Earthenware. The sphero-conical vessel style of objects form a distinct group, homogeneously brought together by their shape and material. Often these objects are the same size, however very large and very small examples have been documented. The form is characterized by the "sphero-conical" shape of the body, the outline varies, but almost all have a narrow neck usually with a groove beneath the lip that would be used to tie a stopper down, and the opening is usually no more than a few millimeters in diameter. Color, texture and finish will vary, but most often these objects are dark, fine grained and compact. Firing appears to be high as to render the object impenetrable, so there is no need for waterproofing. The thickness of the walls gives the object weight and strength, and no doubt helps to improve water tightness. These objects appear throughout the Islamic world in the same form from east to west.   « Less

Circa 1740 Chinese nice Canton Famille Rose Tea Caddy. Made during the reign period of Emperor Yongzheng and the Qianlong Period which dates this in the 18TH Century. Measures 4" in height to the top of the cover and 3 1/2" in width and 3" in depth. The condition is Good with only some chips and frits and a few small old restored chips around the cover, which you would suspect in a piece over 250 years old. We have for sale a very nice old lustre luster lamp. The lamp is ruby red with 8 prisms. The lamp at one time had gold gilt trim on the top ruffle and on the body of the lamp. It has all been worn off. There may be a place or two with speck of gold. There are no cracks or chips. We do not know the exact age or date it was made. It stands 12 1/2 inches tall by 6 3/4 inches and weighs 5 pounds. We do have more photographs that we can email if you are interested.
