Victorian, circa 1870 Large Staffordshire hen on nest tureen. Modeled as a colorful hen sitting on her eggs on top of a basket. The hen forms the cover, and the yellow glazed basket forms the dish. Cream interior. Painted mark on the underside edge of hen. Good. No restoration. No hairlines. No chips. A couple of flakes to underside edge of hen. It is based on real events of ancient times, a tragedy and also a story of passionate love.
