Professionally positioned on linen this poster is historic and extremely difficultto find. In excellent condition. The only reference to this poster I could find on Google was in the Imperial War Museum. The poster is for a get together for combattants of the Marne and Verdun and o help them with employment. The picture is of the naked truth with rays of light from her mirror. The artist is Carrey. A very rare poster in extremely good condition. The poster is by Emile Beaume and measures approximately 31" x 23.5".   « Less

Antique civil war escutcheon that was likely done by John Reynolds of the Salem MA Zouaves. Reynolds, who was a wounded War veteran, filed a patent for displaying military service records in this form in 1864. These were very expensive and depending on the price would get more expensive and could run $50. This is a nice piece of work and was done for an unusual soldier by the name of Thomas Boden. Originally this says he served on the USS Gemsbok from 8/27/61 to 8/27/62. I could not find a record from this from the Park Service, but that is not surprising. This then shows he enlisted in Co. A of the 50th MA and went in on October 6, 1862 and mustered out on August 24, 1863. The US war records show this as a private. Part of this is hand painted, part of it is printed. It has some water staining and looks worse in the picture then it does in person. It is about 23" x 17". While the Gemsbok had a very interesting time and took numerous prizes, the 50th MA served a boring existence in the siege of Port Hudson and about 1 person was killed in action out of about 1,000 soldiers. These escutcheons are rarely seen.   « Less

Vintage Currier & Ives “Brilliant Naval Victory on the Mississippi River Near Fort Wright, May 10th 1862” This print (Conningham 692) is a lithograph on paper with hand coloring. The image size is 7 13/16” x 12 9/16” (small folio). Margins are just ¾” except for 5/8” at the top. There are two minor (5/8”) mended tears in the margin. The right edge of the key is slightly scuffed. The image is clean and bright Published in 1862 by Currier & Ives, this print is framed in a period frame with acid-free backing. It’s a great image for Currier & Ives, Civil War or Naval Battle collectors.   « Less

Authentic antique, early 20th century, extremely well hand painted, oil on canvas, Portrait of the French Marshal Joseph Jacques Cesaire Joffre (1852-1931), in the identifiable Marshal uniform wearing the Order of the Legion of Honor (Legion d’honneur), Grand cross sash (Grand Croix), and other orders and medals. The painting is signed in the lower left corner, H. Rick. Anvers. 1915. There are, very few, existing portraits of Joseph Joffre, painted by different artist, however, all of them were painted after famous photography of Joseph Joffre, taken by R.Melcyor, a French photographer of that period of time and published on the post cards. Also, the portrait of Joseph Joffre in the Paris – Musee de L Arme, Painted by Artiste Henri Jacquier, 1907-1975. (Please see the link below) is not painted in 1915 since the painter at this time was 8 years old, but after the photography. CONDITION: Excellent; no touch-ups, repairs, etc, original, early 20th century, wooden stretching frame. The canvas of the painting is very dry and stiff, the paint on the painting has age cracks with glossy varnish on the surface. Its original, period of time, frame has some minor chips in the gesso. However, all these signs of age are leading to the conclusion that the painting was created during the period of time of the WWI, or just shortly after the war, and is possibly the oldest hand painted portrait of the Marshal Joseph Jacques Cesaire Joffre, of course, as was other portraits painted after his famous photography. MEASUREMENTS: Dimensions with the frame: 51.5 cm x 44 cm (20 1/4 in x 17 1/4 in).
