Victorian, circa 1870 George Jones Majolica ''Full Nest'' game pie dish and cover. The cover is molded with a partridge nestled amongst grasses and ferns, surrounded by her chicks. One chick is sat on its mother''s back, and another is tucked under her wing. Oval dish with two rustic branch handles. Decorated with scenes of rabbits grazing in foliage, surrounded by oak leaf and acorn moldings, set against a cobalt ground. Turquoise interior. Vent hole and three stilt marks to underside of cover. Mottled underside to dish with stilt marks, raised registration diamond for 27th December 1877, painted pattern number ''3371'' in reserve, and impressed ''GJ'' monogram. Similar piece in different color illustrated on front cover, ''The Collectors Encyclopedia of Majolica'' by Mariann Katz-Marks. Also illustrated figure 81, page 55, Schiffer''s ''George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951'' by Robert Cluett. Generally good. Dish: No restoration. Tight hairline where foot is joined to base. Travels 3/4 way around the foot. Almost invisible to exterior. More visible to interior. Slight wear to the cobalt ground. Kiln effect: some cobalt glaze run over the decoration. Cover: Small flake to the mother''s beak. Repair running across the cover, part of repair still visible as a tight hairline on the top. Restoration of one chick head. Victorian, circa 1875 Majolica George Jones Punch Bowl, modeled Mr Punch supporting half an orange. Holly leaves and berries are wrapped around the bowl. Turquoise interior. Mottled underside with three stilt marks, raised pattern registration diamond and pattern number painted ''3468'' in reserve inside the foot. Similar pieces illustrated on page 117,''Majolica'' by Nicholas M. Dawes; on the cover of Schiffer''s ''George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951'' by Robert Cluett; and on page 102, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Generally good. Kiln effects: small glaze pops to the interior and a couple to the holly leaves; marbling-like effect to ochre glaze of bowl; piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle; underside is not completely flat, causing the piece to wobble slightly; glaze misses to the interior and Punch''s hat; slight staining to Punch''s face. Restored crack to top of Punch''s hat, and restored chips and flakes to hat brim. Restored star-shaped hairline to bowl, and hairline to rim. Restored flake to leaf tip (by Punch''s right hand), and flake to his right shoe. Tip of left shoe restored. Pre-restoration pictures are available on request. 8.25ins high by 11.75ins wide « Less

Cream basket weave ground with a panel on either side, one with a pheasant, the other with a hare, and sprigs of holly sprouting from the handles. Cover is surmounted by a hunting dog asleep beside a rifle, powder flask and game bag. Turquoise interior. Three stilt marks and a vent hole to reverse of cover.
