The Charles Parker Co. manufactured furniture, lamps and other wood and metal objects in Meriden, Ct. from 1877 through the early 1900’s. This is a lovely Walnut Piano Stool in exceptional condition. It has a lovely patina; the finish is wonderful. The height adjustment mechanism is in great working order; the stool swivels smoothly and the legs are sturdy. • Stool seat is approx. 15” in diameter, with a gently rounded, bevel carved edge. • Height is approx. 19” (adjustable by turning the stool). • Four ornate ring-turned legs with ring-turned stretchers. • Each leg terminates in nickel silver toned cast iron claw feet; each claw-foot clasps a crystal ball. American Chippendale Period Mahogany Stool Circa 1770-90, Probably New England Visit us at www.sillafineantiques.com for a full slideshow of pictures as well as a large selection of other fine furniture! This is an absolute treasure! Fully original and well preserved, this stool of the Chippendale period was probably crafted in the New England states as a companion for a Wingback Chair or other large arm chair of healthy proportions. With a tall height of 20", it would have been a companion to something with a thick upholstered seat in the 22-24" range. It is crafted with precision, using matched pine corner blocks nailed with four rose heads, a clearly successful mechanism as all are fully retained and the stool is incredibly sturdy. The rails of the stool tenon into the square legs, pinned at each corner and reinforced on a few corners with later (presumably) screws. The legs are plain and precise, chamfered along the back corner for visual appeal. The outermost corner of each leg has a single reed carved, and the rim around the slip seat is carefully molded. Each leg is stretched wonderfully with an H-form stretcher, the middle bar dovetailing into the side bars with tiny dovetails. This is a rare and wonderful find. Stools were not high-production pieces, crafted infrequently for special chairs and clients, and as such are very difficult to acquire in good condition. We believe this to be an American work, noting the secondary wood used and the shape and form of the blocks. This is a piece you will cherish in your home and easily incorporate into such a vast number of design scenarios - it is flexible, moving from being the obvious choice in front of a large WIngback chair to the wall between two windows with some books piled upon it. Also, being the height of many diminutive chairs, it can rest in front of the Piano or dressing table very comfortably, and be fully functional as such. This is something your family will pass through the generations, an heirloom already that has centuries of life left in it's form. Early 19th Century Louis XVI Painted Stool or Window Bench France, probably circa 1840-60 Visit us at www.sillafineantiques.com for a full slideshow of pictures as well as a large selection of other fine furniture! This fine carved work is simply a visual delight! It has a finely carved frame, somewhat half-moon in overall form, carefully molded around the entirety of it. It is carved flawlessly at the center with a wonderful motif, each corner is decorated with carved square rosettes and a repeating carved motif along the bottom. The stool rests over four ring-turned tapered and fluted legs with round ball feet. It has a stunning painted surface, carefully worn with years of life into a very fine patina. The wood shows through, the original paint visible throughout and the entire surface with a light wax. This is an absolute treasure that will bring completion to your seating. It is quite unique and a difficult find, something you will truly enjoy once fully restored.
