This is a rare group of tiles by one of Portugals most famous ceramic artists, Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. Working in the mid to late 19th century, by the 1890''s he had a large output of tiles, many in the Art Nouveau style. Each tile is 5.5 inches square. The set of four is set onto a fabric covered board for display and hanging. The condition is very good, with some chipping to a few corners. The thick lustrous glazes are luscious on these antique tiles.
