Perhaps no single object better embodies the mystery and magic of ancient Egypt than the scarab. Representing the sacred desert beetle, scarabs were used by king and commoner alike as amulets of good fortune and prosperity. Certain scarabs also functioned as personal seals which designated the property and authority of the person whose name appears on them. An emblem of Kephera, the creator, the scarab was worshiped from the earliest period of civilization in Egypt. In addition to its aura of luck, the scarab represented eternal life and resurrection. The ancient Egyptians frequently wore the scarab as jewelry, especially in rings, bracelets and necklaces. This splendid example is carved in steatite and is engraved with a symmetrical design to wear a scarab today is to link ourselves with Egypt at the height of her grandeur. It also invites the accumulated good fortune of centuries to smile upon us, as it did upon its ancient owner. - (FJ.4854) « Less

A beautiful set! 17 inch choker necklace consisting of 29 ancient amazonite beads, 56 ancient black glass beads (Roman Empire Egypt), 22 ancient Egyptian faience tube beads, More »
A beautiful set! 17 inch choker necklace consisting of 29 ancient amazonite beads, 56 ancient black glass beads (Roman Empire Egypt), 22 ancient Egyptian faience tube beads, and 4 handmade 18k gold beads (made exactly as in ancient style), strung on nylon coated wire for durability & wearability, with clasp of a richly coated vermeil (24k gold over sterling silver). Matching dangle earrings in a contemporary setting of 24k over SS vermeil consisting of 6 ancient amazonite beads, 8 ancient Roman blk beads, and 4 ancient Egyptian faience tube beads. Of note: The ancient amazonite beads are from Egypt and Africa, and sometimes referred to as green feldspar. Amazonite was used sparingly in jewelry, and most gemstone beads were considered to be of great value and used for Royal jewelry and occaisional scarabs. These beads were very popular during the 18th Dynasty, especially during the reign of King Thotmose III & Thotmose IV (aka Tutmosis) who built the great Temple at Karnak. It was only 4 yrs ago that ancient amazonite quarries were discovered in Egypt. The Egyptian faience tube beads have a colorful glaze that gets it's green hues from the iron content, & it's blue from copper salts. When they were fired or baked at high temperatures, the glaze would form on the surface. These beads are 3,500 yrs old, & were found in Upper Egypt, from the time of New Kingdom, when Egypt was thriving with abundant craftsmanship, writing, and building of temples. The black glass beads are from Late Dynasty times when Egypt was under Roman rule. All ancient beads circa 1500-1300 B.C. (Roman beads circa 300 B.C.- 600 A.D.)
