Set of 6 Dinner plates Lenox China Prairie Blossoms. Lenox China Prairie Blossoms is a versatile pattern that will work with a wide range of decors. These plates were hand-crafted. In 1889 the Ceramic Art Company, which was creating dinnerware pieces that reflected the Romanesque, Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic styles (and eventually moved on to Art Nouveau) was founded by Walter Scott Lenox and Jonathan Coxon, Sr. Mr. Lenox, who was very artistically inclined, had studied master potters since his youth and worked as an apprentice at both Ott and Brewer and Willetts Pottery in Trenton, NJ. About the time of the Ceramic Art Company''s inception, Belleek of Ireland permanently closed its doors. Migrant ceramic artisans flowed into America, giving new life to the struggling pottery industry and providing an opportunity for Ceramic Art Company to acquire two of Belleek''s artisans. Walter Scott Lenox founded the new Lenox, Inc. in 1906. His defining moment arrived in 1918 when President Woodrow Wilson asked Lenox, Inc. to produce china for the White House, a real coup since most of the previous White House residents had chosen French-made Limoges patterns, this was a first for an American ceramics company! The Prairie Blossoms collection of fine china combines beautiful floral motifs on black border. Manufacturing history: From 1992 to 1997. Very good condition! Status: For Sale Reference#: LENOX_001B Condition: Very good Year: 1996 Country: USA Maker: Lenox Width: 11 in.
