An incredible and rare vessel! Moche, north coast of Peru, Phase IV, Ca 400 to 500 AD. Narrow strirrup vessel representing a Bean/Legume in Portrait form depicting a Mochica Lord / King having a Sun Disk with attached mask and Sun Flares and Painted Royal Ear Spools. The face is divided by a tattoo representing duality, an underlying principle of Mochica Mythology. Beans are found in Mochica a Proto Nazca/Nazca cultures with Glyphs painted on them and we still are unable to understand their true meaning. They are depicted on Fine Line Mochica Paintings and Polychrome Nazca Painted Vessels, we’ve even seen real Beans with Polychrome Painted Glyphs incorporated into Proto Nazca Textile Fringes. 12"H, appears near-choice, but as is normal, spout reattached. Rare narrow form! Category:Moche Material:Pottery Dimensions:12"H Condition:Repaired « Less
