Like them it derives from the Rococo needlepoint and Aubusson tapestry designs, especially in the border. But alongside this heritage, there is a distinctly Russian or Ukrainian folk art sensibility that informs the overall palette of magenta, golds, and browns as well as the fine floral design of the field. Antique Turkish Tuduc, late 19th century - This splendid little antique Turkish rug brings to life again the exquisite fantasy and luxury of Mogul India. Fine palmettes and arabesques sprawl graciously across the soft magenta ground. This pattern is punctuated along the center by a Buddhist pillar monument, a mosque, and small Hindu divinity flanked by dragons, all symbolizing the unity of the multi-cultural Mogul Empire.
