Miniature portrait of a beautiful young lady on porcelain, mounted in a gold coloured frame. 19th century, French or Italian. 1 3/4inches accross. Round, curved porcelain with head of a young woman, her hair flowing over her shoulders and a white garment covering one side, revealing the other breast. Beautiful Renaissance like features. Handpainted, signed portrait miniature on ivory of a lady in a veil. Inlaid Ivory frame. Victorian (19th century) England. Ivory frame is 4 1/2 X 5 inches. Gilt bronze inner frame is 2 3/4inches long. Top quality ivory frame with beautiful patina. Inlaid shell along the border. Inner, fine engraved gilt bronze frame around the portrait. Portrait depicts a beautiful young woman, soft pink veil over her severely parted hair. Beautiful creamy complexion. Wonderul detail to face and clothes. Pose, especially long, soft fingers and clothes is reminiscent of the women in Renaissance paintings by Raphael or Leonardo. Very fine painting and masterful artistic ability. Handpainted miniature portrait on ivory of a woman with green eyes and with green ribbons in her white bonnet and black dress.In an oval locket frame, measuring 1 3/4inches accross (altogether).Very nicely painted blue and green background. The woman, clearly a middleaged housewife, with immaculate hair under her frilly white bonnet with it''s bright green ribbons. The starkness of her clothes is alleviated by this green that brings out the colour of her eyes and changes the drab housewife into a beautiful portrait. Miniature painting of a lady in a silver frame. Circa 1710, most likely English and bears a strong resemblance to a miniature in the book on the subject from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (#101), identified as either Sophia Dorothea, later Queen of Prussia (daughter of George I) or, George II''s wife, Caroline of Ansbach. .Measures just over 1inch long and 1 1/2inch including entire length of frame.Oval, painted on vellum in watercolour. The lady''s blue eyes match her blue cloak, worn over a pink dress. Curly hair and fair skin. Painting shows great artistic skill and anatomical mastery.Frame is likely original to the period. The bottom ''clip'' of the frame broke off when we checked the item, otherwise condition is very good with no damage to the painting, which retains clarity and brightness of colour. Pair of early 18th century French miniature portrait paintings on vellum. Portraits depict a man and a woman respectively. The full bearded man looks inwards, as though deep in thought. He wears a simple blue robe and has long curly hair and and greying beard. The woman has a beautiful, if heroic face. Silky blond hair is pulled back and plaited into a bun behind her head. She also looks away from the viewer as though emotionally absorbed in matters elsewhere. She wears a lighter blue scarf over a pink/tan top - low cut with a frilly edge to her bodice. Both are beautiful people caught up in intensely emotional moments, oblivious to the viewer. The quality of the draftmanship is superb. Minute detail, superbly depicted. Old Master quality painting. Although these are very old, both paintings and frames are in excellent condition. Wooden frames are just under 3inches in diam. Frame has gadrooned outer and inner borders and uper surface is gilded, while outside rim is covered in vellum.
