46 x 67 How can you not help but fall in love with a cow riding a bicycle who has cheese for earrings? This oversize bovine is too cute - and her smile is rather contagious. Top that off with the fact that even without pedals she seems to be able to ride a bike and you've got a cow with class. This oversize poster was produced in France in the early '60's is unsigned, enormous (46 x 67 inches approx) and in pretty good shape - some of her colors are a little faded, and she has clearly been around the block a few times, but she unfailingly makes us smile. This beauty is linen backed and would look fantabulous in a large kitchen, restaurant, bakery or childs room. #1018   « Less

Shipscalers union, 1943 ARTIST : Anonymous America''s Shipscalers union, formed by the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), arose out of the four day, 1934 labor strike up and down the west coast, which shut down ports from San Diego to Vancouver. Shipscalers tasks were among the most unglamorous, laborious, dirty and dangerous jobs on the docks. They were responsible for scraping barnacles off the undersides of ships in dry dock, painting the exteriors, cleaning soot out of boiler rooms and by some accounts also cleaning up debris from repair work in the holds. For this poster, advertising a union picnic in lincoln park, the image is as obscure as the artist. In a decidedly WPA style, the anonymous artist depicts a woman embracing a welding mask, while a man carries a basket of fruit and bottles. If the visual message is unclear the point of the poster is not; a chance for returning soldiers and laborers to get together and work towards further solidarity. Description: Canadian Pacific Travel Artist : Anonymous The first known CPR poster was printed in 1883. Since then, thousands of brochures, posters, menus, advertisements and other items have been created to promote travel, immigration and settlement, war efforts, freight traffic and other services provided by the company. In early years, CPR sponsored artists - both well-known and emerging talent - by providing railway passes to take them to scenic locations along the line, and CPR had the option to purchase works produced from these trips. In later years, CPR commissioned artists and even employed full-time graphic artists in the company''s studio in Montreal. This photo montage poster advertises the international nature of CP cruises to exotic locales. The limited color palette is used to its best advantage and creates an interesting use of perspective.
