Titus Flavius Domitian was the son of the emperor More »
Origin: The Holy Land
Circa: 81 AD to 96 AD
Collection: Coin Jewelry
Style: Roman
Medium: Bronze-Diamond-Gold
Titus Flavius Domitian was the son of the emperor Vespasian. His succession in A.D. 81 was smooth, and though the senate was generally hostile to him, Domitian is said to have been an able administrator and conscientious of his duties. Through careful administration of the provinces and supervision of regional governors, he achieved an equitable running of affairs. In an age of profligate rulers, Domitian was judicious in financial affairs, and left a surplus in the treasury upon his death. This handsome coin shows the emperor facing left, wearing a laurel crown. On the reverse are the letters SC (Senatus Consulto), meaning the coin was struck by the public authority of the senate according to the constitution of the republic, and the laws of the Roman mint. The contrast of the bold bronze and glittering diamonds makes this pendant an abject worthy of someone with imperial taste. - (FJ.6123) « Less

Collection: Coin Jewelry

Medium: Silver and Diamonds
Varius Avitus Bassianus (later known as Elagabalus), was barn at Emesa about A. D. 205. As a boy he was priest of the Sun-god Elagabalus, a name he assumed after becoming emperor. His sudden rise to power was instigated by his grandmother who c1everly spread a rumor among the soldiers that her grandson was the son of Caracalla, whom the army loved. Following the defeat of Macrinus' s forces, Elagabalus was accepted by the Senate as emperor and began a leisurely journey to Rome. This beautiful denarius shows the youthful ruler wearing a laurel wreath, surrounded by the legend indicating one of his many titles, ANTONINVS PIUS AUG. On the reverse is the god Mars advancing right carrying a spear and trophy. Rome' s emperors were not only famous for their conquests; they also have a reputation for luxury and high style, often gathering the most gifted artists around them. This gorgeous pendant would be at home in any royal court, hanging around the neck of someone who would easily grace a palace. - (FJ.6125) « Less

Though he came from humble origins Postumus was a soldier of remarkable ability, having been appointed commander of the Rhine legions by the emperor Valerian. He is distinguished for having ruled Gaul, Spain and Britain firmly and wisely for a decade. His military prowess kept the western empire safe, repelling repeated attacks of the German tribes on the Rhine. This fascinating denarius shows the emperor wearing a radiating crown with the legend IMP. C. POSTVMVS P.F. AVG. On the reverse is the deity Moneta, standing left holding a cornucopia. Moneta was the title under which Juno was worshipped on the north peak of the Capitoline Hill in Rome. According to legend, during the war against Pyrrhus the Romans were afraid they would run out of money. They asked Juno's advice and she replied that they would never be short of money if their wars were fought according to the principles of justice. In gratitude for this advice it was decided that the minting of coins would be placed under the auspices of the goddess. The elegance of this coin matches the radiant beauty of the pendant, both ideal for someone who possesses the c1assic style of the past. - (FJ.6126) « Less

Circa: 180 BC to 145 BC
Collection: Coin Jewelry
Style: Roman
Medium: Silver, Gold
Ptolemy VI Philometor came from a long line of impressive rulers, beginning with Alexander the Great' s successor in Egypt Ptolemy I. The sixth of that illustrious line was only a child when he became king, ruling jointly with his mother until 176 B.C., and later shared power with his sister Cleopatra II, and Ptolemy VIII. His reign was troubled by dynastic difficulties and external rebellion. ln 164 B. C. he went to Rome to plead for his throne, and was soon re-instated in Alexandria. A brave soldier Ptolemy VII died of wounds received in battle against Alexander Balas of Syria. This very beautiful and rare tetradrachm shows the king' s profile with the distinctive Ptolemaic features, possessing a strong chin and penetrating gaze. On the reverse is the trademark eagle, with the Greek inscription, Ptolemy King. The letters ÇÂ è stand for the year of minting and, ÔÔà for Paphos as the place where it was minted. This handsome coin seems to have gained in power and presence over the centuries; perfectly suited to someone whose confidence is equal to the great king's of the past. - (FJ.6129) « Less

The fourth or fifth son of Constantine the Great, Constans was bestowed the title Caesar by his father in 333. When Constantine died in 337, Constans and his two brothers, Constantius II and Constantine II, each adopted the title of Augustus and divided the empire among themselves. Constans took control of Italy, Africa, and Illyricum (the northwestern Balkans). In 340 Constantine II—ruler of Spain, Gaul, and Britain—invaded northern Italy but was defeated and killed by Constans' army at Aquileia. This victory gave Constans control over the entire western half of the empire. He defended his realm successfully against the Franks in 341 and two years later visited Britain. In 350, however, he was overthrown and killed in Gaul by the usurper Magnus Magnentius. Overall Constans is remembered as an ardent orthodox Christian and vigorous opponent of paganism. This coin depicts the young emperor as both handsome and strong, wearing a diadem. On the reverse are two soldiers standing either side of a military standard. The beauty and delicacy of this ring is equal to the good taste of the person who wears something so unique. - (FJ.6131) « Less

Flavius Julius Constantius was born on August 7, 317 to Fausta and Constantine the Great. He became Caesar on November 8, 324 and Augustus on September 9, 337 after his father's death. He received the eastern provinces in the division of the Empire with his brothers Constans and Constantine II. He spent much of his reign warring with the Sassanian Empire under Sapor II, but suppressed Magnentius, the murderer of Constans, to become the sole Augustus in August of 353. He died of illness on November 3, 361 near Tarsus while marching to suppress Julian II, who had declared himself Augustus in early 360. Like his father before him, Constantius II played a prominent role in the early history of the Christian Church. He was a tolerant and just ruler, although he stifled any possible competitors to his power. This handsome coin shows the noble profile of Constantius wearing a laurel wreath and cuirass. The reverse depicts a soldier advancing left spearing a fallen horseman. The power of this coin comes from the strength of a ruler who carried on the line of the great Constantine I; just as the wearer of this pendant will continue a long tradition of ornamentation bearing impressive images of the past. - (FJ.6133) « Less
