M. Aurelius Valerius Maximianus was from Dalmatia (now Yugoslavia), a fellow countryman of the Emperor Diocletian. In 286 A.D. Diocletian elevated him to the rank of Augustus, placing him in charge of the western half of the extensive Roman Empire. Seven years later, in 293 A.D., each Augustus was assigned a Caesar to help him govern, thus forming the system known as the tetrachy. In 305 A.D. Diocletian and Maximianus both abdicated their power as Augusti. A period of political complications followed, resulting in Maximianus' son Maxentius coming to power and inviting his father to re- assume his role. Maximianus, who had been reluctant to abdicate in 305, readily agreed to become emperor again in late 306. Maximianus strengthened his power by forming an alliance with the Augustus Constantine the great and arranging for the marriage of Constantine and Maximianus' daughter. Maximianus later quarreled with his son Maxentius and fled Rome for the protection offered by Constantine. A conference w as held between all the claimants for the tetrachic thrones, resulting in the forced abdication of Maximianus. In 310, Maximianus revolted against Constantine and was proclaimed emperor for the third time. Constantine then besieged Maximianus in Massilia (Marseilles), and soon after the fall of the city, the emperor died. The heritage of this ancient ruler's stalwart perseverance and strength is evidenced today in this stunning bronze coin pendant. Its regal setting is a modern testimony to this emperor's timeless legacy. - (FJ.4920) « Less

Origin: Syria (Homs)
Circa: 249 AD to 251 AD
Collection: Roman Silver Coin Pendant
Style: Tetradrachm
Medium: Silver-Gold
C. Messius Quintus Trianus Decius was born about 201 A.D. In lower Pannonia (now Hungary and Yugoslavia). He was governor of lower Moesia (southern Europe) from 234-238 A.D. Following the abortive rebellion of upper Moesia, Philip dispatched Decius to restore order; but the rebels forced the latter, under threat of death, to "assume the purple" and march upon Italy. In the ensuing battle Philip and his son were slain and Decius w as left undisputed master of the empire. Much of his short reign was spent in fighting the barbarians on the northern frontier and in a battle against the Goths in 251 A.D. Decius was defeated and killed. Unfortunately, the reign of Decius is best known for his rigorous persecution of the Christians, in which pope Fabian lost his life. Apart from Decius' own coins, and those of his wife and sons, he also struck a series of coins commemorating most of the deified emperors from Augustus to Severus Alexander. To wear this striking silver coin, in its radiant gold setting, is to reach to the core of one's own aesthetic and historical passions... The heritage of our ancient past continuing through time never-ending. - (FJ.5025) « Less

Titus Aurelius Fulvus Boionius Arrius Antoninus was born at Lanuvium in 86 A.D. He adopted a senatorial career and was consul in 120, later distinguishing himself as proconsul in Asia. He was adopted by Hadrian as his heir on February 25,138, and during the emperor's last months, Antoninus was virtually ruler, and his succession on July 10, was smooth. The history of his reign is almost a blank in the records, owing to the tranquility and prosperity which the roman world enjoyed under his patient, judicious and impartial rule. He died at Lorium on March 7th, 161, and was succeeded by Marcus Aurelius who had been selected by Hadrian as the eventual heir to the throne. To wear this extraordinary gold pendant is to carry on the legacy of the golden age of Rome--the pendant's radiant beauty a reminder of the radiance of an ancient time. - (FJ.5262) « Less

Marcus Ulpius Trajanus was born in Italica in Spain about 52 A.D. He held several important military posts and was eventually appointed governor of upper Germany by Nerva, who later adopted him as heir to the throne. Upon his succession, Trajan expanded the roman territory, successfully undertaking the conquest of Dacia. The famous column which was erected to commemorate Trajan’s Dacian wars still stands in Rome. He also carried out a spectacular building program in Rome while at the same time constructing and repairing many roads, bridges and aqueducts throughout the empire. In 113 A.D. He set out to annex both Armenia and Mesopotamia. He achieved considerable success in his Easter campaigns adding four new provinces to the empire. At this point, revolts broke out in a number of provinces and Trajan w as forced to return home. However, he was never to make it back to Rome for he died in Cilicia in august, 117 A.D. The reign of Trajan is generally thought of as the true beginning of Rome’s golden age. To wear this extraordinary gold pendant is to carry on the legacy of the golden age of Rome--the pendant's radiant beauty a reminder of the radiance of an ancient time. - (FJ.5263) « Less

M. Antonius Gordianus, grandson of the ill-fated Gordian I and nephew of Gordian II, was born about 255 A.D. After his grandfather and uncle perished in their revolt against the emperor Maximinus in 238 A.D., Gordian III was given the title of Caesar by Balbinus and Pupienus, the two co-emperors set up by the senate in opposition to Maximinus. When these two were also murdered, Gordian III was proclaimed Augustus by the praetorian guard. In 244 A.D. Gordian went to personally direct the campaign in the Persian east, where he met with great initial success. However, due to the treachery of the praetorian prefect, Julius Phillipus, the loyalty of the army was undermined and Gordian III was deposed and killed in Mesopotamia. - (FJ.5264) « Less
