With a strong and visionary personality, Constantine defined the age in which he lived. Court historians record how, dressed in rich robes and glittering jewels, he dazzled his contemporaries. Surely then Constantine would have approved of this dramatic jewel, which sets his imperial portrait in a frame of gold worked in the exact manner of ancient jewelry. The brilliant patterns of the gold provide radiant contrast to the aged surface of the bronze. Medium: Billion, Gold
During Philip’s reign, Rome celebrated the one thousandth anniversary of its founding. Festivals and ceremonies were held throughout the empire, with the gladiatorial games in Rome itself lasting almost a year. Those who first held this alloyed coin in their hands were witnesses to history in the making, the celebration of a world already ancient. As we wear it today in its radiant setting of gold, the world has grown older still. Great empires have came and gone, but the essentials of human nature remain the same. To touch this coin is to communicate in an intimate way with that vanished age and with the people who gave it meaning. - (FJ.4763) « Less

Origin: Syria (Antioch)
Circa: 360 AD to 363 AD
Collection: Roman Bronze Coin Pendant
Medium: Bronze-Gold
Though Julian was a man of many talents, political, artistic and spiritual, he is best remembered in history for his revival of pagan religion. At a time when the Roman Empire had converted to Christianity, Julian attempted to bring back the values of Classical Antiquity. This powerful coin reflects that quest, for it bears Julian’s portrait on one side, and the image of a bull on the other. The bull was an animal long associated with pagan gods, a symbol of strength and power. Such a coin puts us in touch with a distinct moment in history, the last twilight of the ancient world and the permanent dawning of the Christian age. - (FJ.4766) « Less

Origin: The Holy Land
Circa: 98 AD to 117 AD

Style: Roman
Medium: Silver-Ruby-Diamond
Trajan was born in 53 A.D. to a family of Roman origin residing in Itálica (near modern Sevilla, Spain). Conqueror of Dacia (modern Romania) and Mesopotamia, he ruled the Roman emperor from the year 98 until his death in 117. He was trained as a youth in the Roman army and took an active part in campaigns in Spain, Syria, and Germany during the reigns of the emperors Titus and Domitian. Trajan achieved distinction as a general of outstanding ability, and in 91 he was elected a consul. In 97 he was adopted by Emperor Nerva as his colleague and successor. On the death of Nerva the following year, Trajan, who was at that time inspecting the Roman frontier in Germany, became the sole ruler of the empire. Although he spent the greater part of his career engaged in military campaigns, expanding the empire further east and south, the government of Rome was carefully guided. Today, marks of his reign are stamped all over the Eternal City. The famous Trajan’s Column, commemorating his victory over the Dacians, stands among the ruins of his magnificent Forum, part of the greater Forum complex. Nearby, Trajan’s Marketplace, overlooking the Forum, is a strikingly modern shopping structure complete with segmented stalls for individual vendors, not altogether different from modern malls. He also made many improvements outside of Rome including repairs along the fabled Appian Way as well as countless other civic projects throughout the empire. To wear this splendid gold coin pendant is to carry on the legacy of the golden age of Rome--the pendant's radiant beauty a reminder of the radiance of an ancient time. - (FJ.4916) « Less
