Size: 25.75 inches x 33.25 inches.Excellent condition.Titled and dated on the reverse of the stretcher. The Ann McKim is considered to have been the first clipper ship.She was commissioned by Isaac McKim and built by the Baltimore firm of ship builders Kennard and Williamson in 1833.At the time of her launching, she was the longest merchant ship in the U.S. and was used in the China trade.   « Less

Marine painting of the Brittany coast at low tide, attributed to the painter William Edward Norton (American, 1843-1916), oil on canvas, unsigned. William Edward Norton was born in Boston of seafaring parents from whom he developed his love of marine subjects. He studied under Georg Inness and at the Lowell Institute and then opened a studio in Boston, where he worked until the early 1870s, when he took up further studies in Paris under Chevreuse and A. Vollon. In about 1875, he and his wife moved to London, where he resided for the last quarter of the 19th century and exhibited his marine paintings, before returning to the U.S., settling in New York City, where he died in 1916. He is best known for his renderings of coastal, marine and Thames River views. This painting has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition. Canvas size: 16" x 24". Frederick Kubitz is a Massachusetts artist who paints in both watercolor and oil. Scenes of Boston are a favorite subject, but his oeuvre includes a wide range of places, including Maine harbors, Vermont countryside, Cape Cod coasts, and New Hampshire mountains. He is a member of the Guild of Boston Artists, American Watercolor Society, American Society of Marine Artists, New England Watercolor Society, and Rockport Art Association.
