Beautiful early belt or necklace (depends how big your waist is!). Panels of Afghani lapis lazuli mounted in gilded and decorated metal panels. The metal is probably low-grade silver or pot metal, gilded. The effect is rather of dull brass, and the lapis is shot through with good gold streaks. Panels are each 30 mm by 23 mm (1.1/4 inches by about 1 inch). Each panel is joined by three strands of double linked chain, with a lower draped chain. Total length is about 84 cm or 33 inches. Probably originally a belt,but could be worn as a necklace. Very good antique/vintage condition. One lapis stone has a little damage, but all quite secure. « Less

Colonial New Zealand 19th century necklace and earrings made in kauri gum - the ancient fossilized resin of the New Zealand kauri tree. Similar to amber, but not quite as old. The gum has been fashioned into little acorns, and the necklace is chain link with three suspended acorns, the central one being larger than the two flanking ones. Necklace length is 40.5 cm, and the largest acorn is 2 cm high by 1.5 cm diameter. The chain is silver, but the catch is base metal (appears to be brass). The earrings are screw fitting, and the drop from the ear is about 3.5 cm. The earring metal is also base metal, with brass chain suspension. Amber lump mounted in a pretty filigree frame of gilded silver. Intricate pattern to the filigree of the mount and bale. Stamped on the rear of the bale "silver". The amber has inclusions, possibly an insect. Measures 35.5 mm by 25.5 mm not including the filigree bale (1.3/8 inches by 1 inch). Rear has a little flattening to the mount (very, very minor), but overall in excellent condition. Probably late Victorian - late 1800s. « Less

Little locket with suspension ring - Australian colonial silver, it is stamped on the rear with the words "Sterling Silver" and three boxes, containing an M, an Emu, and a Maltese style cross. The locket may have started out as a dance compact, as it has the front hinging lid and appearance of one of these little compacts. Inside a photo of a man is loosely glued, and there is no mirror in the lid, although some mottled staining suggests there might have been one. Lovely little locket, it measures 39 mm diameter and 10 mm thick (1.1/2 inches by 3/8 inch). A few little dents - one on the face side rim. It has initials in flowing script engraved on the lid - they are worn a bit faint, but possibly read J.A.B. « Less

Very pretty early 20th century Indian necklace - probably made in the days of the Raj. It is a twisted-effect strand of simulated pearls and genuine garnet beads, with little metal bead cones at the end and red and cream plaited cord and tassel. The cord has a silver-wire thread bead which slides up and down to control the length of the necklace. Total length of necklace is 79 cm (31 inches) - the actual beaded section is 19.5 cm long (7.3/4 inches) to the beginning of the cones. Bead area is 1 cm diameter (3/8 inch). All in very good condition. « Less
