Superb Early 19th C American Sheraton Massachusetts Mahogany Sofa. This Is A Lovely Sofa With A Square Back With Downswept Wings Joining Reeded & Inlaid Arm Supports, Centering A Loose Cusion Seat Raised On Balloon - Turned And Reeded Front Legs. Height: 37", Length: 78", Depth: 25" PROVENANCE: ACCORDING TO FAMILY ORAL TRADITION this lovely sofa was purchased in 1835 by Linus Carpenter of Foxboro, Massachusetts from a young Harvard Law student named Warren, a relative of General Joseph Warren. It has been the property of the Arts of The Americans furniture collection - at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, for many years. Recently acquired from this Massachusetts institution for inventory. 18TH century recamier in the Italian "Grotesque" style. The back of this truly incredible piece of furniture features cornucopias, rams heads and ponies. The front corner is a figure standing on a mythical animal with a snake body and goat- like face. The front and side aprons are completely carved and end in claw feet. The back right corner is a partial figure. Equally amazing is the fact that this piece retains its original finish There are no losses to the carving. The only restoration we can see is a re-gluing of the back panel on a seam. The wood is walnut and it has been beautifully re-upholstered in blue damask. 61" long x 24" deep x 33" tall. Antique French ormolu gooseneck recamier, This wonderful Antique French furniture piece is called a "Recamier" and dates from the middle to late 19th century. All the bronze pieces are covered with ormolu. Excellent castings and condition. This "French Recamier" was obviously made by a master craftsman. This antique French recamier measures 28 inches deep, is 36 inches at the highest point. The eagle feet measure14 inches. From the floor to the top cushion measures 26 inches high and measures 19 and one half inches high to the top of the bottom cushion. The shorter side measures 26 and one half inches high and this antique French day bed measures 74 and one half inches long overall.   « Less

The malachite green cut velvet upholstery is historically appropriate and in excellent condition. This sofa retains its original bronze ormolu ornamental mountings. Extremely well made.
