Pair of Lovely Art Deco Polychrome Sconces Circa 1933 Pair of antique Art Deco slip shade wall sconces by a firm in Cleveland, Ohio called: The Frankelite Co. Frankelite had a logo which was a stylized "F" in a diamond device, and issued their products under the trade name of Diamond Lighting Equipment. These sconces, circa 1933, were part of the group they named the "Fenwick Series". Frankelite was a rather small firm, about which very little is known. We have a few examples of their work, and they are always rather unique and attractive stand-alone lights. The name and date of these fixtures is verified by literature from the company, as stated above. Wonderful condition. The shades are simply a treat, and in remarkable condition. Shades were probably made by Consolidated Glass, or another quality glass house. Measurements: * Height: 11 ½" * Width: 7" (maximum - backplate) * Projection: 5" from the wall into the room. The shades are in very good condition, and seem to match the rounded decorative elements and denoting lines of the backplate quite well. There is...as always...a bit of roughness of the shades going into the fitter from years of changing light bulbs...but quite normal, commensurate with age. The metal is finished in a pewter finish, and has some interesting decorative elements reflecting the Streamline Art Deco. Antique Art Deco Streamline Design Slip Shade Sconces Art Deco Streamline design is presented with this pair of sconces. Circa 1936 or so, they are iconic for Streamline design and minimalism in lighting. Often confused with commercial sconces, they do have that minimal function that could be illusive...however...matches well with other simple Streamline designs. While the sconce frames have been thoroughly cleaned, there is some deterioration to the metal BEHIND the shades. This reflects their age, and probably the way they were stored for 60 to 80 years. Luckily...the visible parts of these sconces are maintained rather well. The heavy, thick shades are frosted, and in great condition. Measurements: * Height: 8 ½" * Width: 5" * Projection: 3 ¾" from the wall into the room. We have rewired these sconces to UL American standards with new sockets in our UL shop. They are aged commensurate with their Art Deco antique nature...like a good oriental carpet. The shades are very nice indeed, with custard and clear contrasts. It was made during the 1930s, and it has all matching shades that are an amber color with clear floral panels. The shades are in excellent condition without chips or cracks...only minor roughness where they go in and out of the fitter...but not seen when mounted, and very minor in any case. And...they all match. Many Art Deco lighting dealers are charging $250 to $300 EACH for these shades. Also nice is that each reticulated panel...between each slip shade...is wonderfully cast, which is very hard to accomplish if you ask any good casting person. There are Mica panels on the bottom of the chandelier, which gives a nice warming affect with the light coming through them. The amber shades are also in simply great condition. Solid Bronze Art Deco Slip Shade Chandelier by Mid West Mnf So nice to be able to offer another really fine light to you. Here we have one of the scarce lights of the Deco era from Mid West Mfg circa 1935. This is the SIX light (shade) Soleure chandelier. Mid West only made the best quality lighting. This chandelier is solid bronze with a great aged finish. The finish has variations of red bronze and brass mixed colors after ages of being wiped, cleaned, and otherwise maintained. Just like a good oriental carpet, it shows it age and care. The castings are so beautiful, with lots of pierced parts which are...were...so hard to do, as any casting man will tell you. The finish does have some minor variations, but it also has a nice mellow appearance; most antiquers would not touch this lovely...aged bronze...finish. It is simply beautiful. This light has been totally re-wired in our UL registered shop, with six new sockets and a new main stem wire. Measurements: * Height: 30" * Diameter: 20" (shade-tip to shade-tip) * Ceiling Canopy: About 7" inches in diameter. Overall height can be increased by adding chain. Please contact us for pricing. Excellent for a lower ceiling where substantial light is desired. They could, if desired, be mounted with a pull chain for off/on at the fixture. Or, they can be used with a dimmer wall switch. While they were produced just slightly before the true Art Deco era, they would have nicely graced a home from 1920 to 1940 with authentic ease. The frames have a nice pewter finish. Circa 1920, these fixtures were originally sold both as a close ceiling fixture and with a stem for a longer drop. These chandeliers have been totally rewired to UL code, with new sockets and wire, and are ready to grace a lovely home. Each socket is fully capable of 100 watt incandescent bulb. The finish, while being cleaned up a mite, is original and simply beautiful to the max. Hard to find a much nicer antique slip shade chandelier than this one. Wonderful condition. The shades are simply a treat, and in remarkable condition. Probably made by Consolidated Glass, or another quality glass house. Since we are curators of the only American Art Deco Museum, we can tell you a bit about this light. It was made by a firm in Cleveland, Ohio called: The Frankelite Co. The logo was a stylized "F" in a diamond device. They issued their products under the trade name of Diamond Lighting Equipment. This light, circa 1933, was part of their "Fenwick Series". This chandelier was Model 1255. The catalog says it has a spread of 21" (they actually rounded that figure up from 20 ½"). Frankelite was a rather small firm that very little is known about. We have a few examples of their work, and they are always rather unique and attractive stand-alone lights. The name and date of these fixtures has been verified by literature from the company as 1933. Measurements: * Height: 31" * Diameter: ~21" This fixture can be lengthened by adding chain links.
