Antique Period American country painted pine six board blanket chest c1790. This is the only six board blanket chest or trunk we have seen with a secret compartment. The left inside drawer is fake. When you remove the right drawer and pull out the center divider you can access the secret drawer as shown in one of the pictures provided. This blanket chest has its old red wash and is dovetailed on all four sides. Excellent original condition including hinges and lock. No repairs or restoration. This is a handsome and decorative Trunk handmade from solid chestnut by the first part of the 17th century during the Louis XIII period mounted with large wrought iron hardware. Note that the hinges on the inside of the Trunk have been replaced at some point. Several scratches and dents can be seen here and there due to the age.
