Mid-West was a top-of-the-line manufacturer, who in their beginning, only cast solid bronze lights that were exceedingly difficult due to their reticulated surfaces. A bit later during the Depression, they added a white metal capacity to compete with Lincoln Mnf, who had the business of Sears. During the Depression, Sears customers would NOT normally come up to the pricing level of Bronze Materials, so Mid-West created exciting new aluminum lines to compete. Mid-West survived the Depression, and was sold a few years back to a large lighting conglomerate. (Information courtesy of the Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.) These sconces are Bronzed & Nickel FINISHED on cast aluminum. Like an old Persian carpet, some mellowed wear to the bronze finish is there, but still an outstanding pair of antique Art Deco sconces with mint condition frosted shades. We have re-wired these sconces to UL standards with new sockets in our UL shop. Each sconce has a rotary switch. They are ready to hang with a standard light mounting kit, which we will supply. Fantastic Art Deco 1930s chandelier. This is such an unusual light, it is hard to find a place to start. First, it is a 6 light fixture. Five of the lights are on the outside on the arms (in the gorgeous amber shades), and one is in the center behind the fine cut-glass center panels. This center socket gives you three options for décor. You can use an amber light bulb...or a plain frosted tube light bulb...or even shut it off, since the 3 way switch at the bottom of the light turns the center light bulb on and off. This chandelier has been re-wired in our UL lamp shop with new sockets and wire to UL standards. Each new socket can easily take a 100 watt bulb giving a total of 600 watts of light if so desired. Of course, LED bulbs are neat too. Going that extra mile...that we like to do...the rotary switch near the bottom finial, is what is called a three-way switch. It allows you to turn the center light on ONLY (night light)...or turn the five shades outside ONLY...or turn both the inside and outside lights on together. This ability to vary the lighting gives lots of decorating possibilities. The five cut glass center panels are just plain gorgeous. They slip in from the top, and I am pleased to say that they are in mint condition with so little roughness that it is not worth discussing. Compare the design in the center panels to the design on the arms holding the shades, and you will notice that they match...and the scrolls on the glass panels also match the scrolls on the metal supports. All so very nice. The shades for each of the arms, while being lovely mellow amber, are also in outstanding condition with only the most minor of roughness. The metal of the chandelier is, I believe, aluminum with some iron and steel for the main fixture metals, which has a nice ambiance of a pewter finish. All a very nice appearance. We had one of these about 3 years ago...its shades were darker, but it still sold quickly. The buyer was delighted, and we can see why...what a statement it makes! A very neat shell motif British theatre chandelier. This chandelier (and sconces that match it) are often called Odeon Lights, since the main movie house chain in Britain has named all their theatres Odeon . In fact... Odeon is often a synonymous term for a movie theatre, i.e. " Let's go to the Odeon ." This chandelier was used with frosted, amber, and even pink tinted shades around the turn of the century. In older British theaters, you can still see them existing where they have been for over half a century or more. We have rewired this chandelier to UL American standards in our UL listed shop, with a new American center socket cluster for three bulbs. One bulb lights each shade, so 300 watts can be achieved with this chandelier if 100 watt bulbs are used. There is minor rubbing on the frame (pictured) due to its age, which should not affect the impression of the fixture, but we thought to mention it. The chandelier is ready to hang with an American standard light mounting kit which we will supply. Fine Streamline Art Deco six shade chandelier...Circa 1935 - 37 made by Mid-West Mnf of North Kansas City, MO. They called this series: The Beverly. And this top-of-the-line chandelier was numbered 2305 for ordering. The six shade versions of any light were always top-of-the-line for all Art Deco slip shade series from every company. This nice chandelier is finished in a mixed nickel and what Mid-West called their Venetian Bronze finish. It was also available in a nice old gold finish with nickel highlights during the '30s. It was definitely a contrast that was part of the Streamline statement in lighting. This chandelier has been totally re-wired with new sockets and wires in our UL approved shop, and is ready to go. We will even supply a mounting kit so you can have it hung-up in no time. Nice original finish and shades. The finish is a mite thin in places...like an old Persian carpet, with the minor metal showing some of its 80 or so years...but the condition is considered good for the age of the fixture. These sconces were made by Globe Lighting Fixture Mfg of Brooklyn, NY. They are listed in their 1933 catalog, and are stock numbered 5071. (Information courtesy Kelly Art Deco Light Museum) The backplates have a pewter hi/lo finish, and are quite nice. They have been restored (cleaned up) and re-lacquered. The shades are embossed (like carving) and the design is excellent. Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Normal bakelite sockets for everyday medium base bulbs have been installed just like the originals. A rotary on/off switch has been renewed as well. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread to a normal electrical box from within the case. All mounting hardware will be supplied. Original antique sconces with an original antique brass finish. The metal framed amber shades are really quite lovely when lit with nice contrasting crystal drops below. With a strong bulb, they give an ambiance that is just lovely. Not easy to find quality like this. The contrast of the BRASS body is quite striking. These sconces have a rich formality, and yet just have so much nice detail. So unusual and so striking. We took our picture with a mere 15 watt bulb so the camera lens would focus on the entire sconce and shade detail...not get blown out by too strong of bulb. These sconces have been completely re-wired in our UL shop with new medium base, normal, porcelain sockets and all new wire. A mounting kit will be supplied. Pair of antique Art Deco slip shade wall sconces by a firm in Cleveland, Ohio called: The Frankelite Co. Frankelite had a logo which was a stylized "F" in a diamond device, and issued their products under the trade name of Diamond Lighting Equipment. These sconces, circa 1933, were part of the group they named the "Fenwick Series". Frankelite was a rather small firm, about which very little is known. We have a few examples of their work, and they are always rather unique and attractive stand-alone lights. The name and date of these fixtures is verified by literature from the company as stated above. Wonderful condition. The shades are simply a treat, and in remarkable condition. The shades were probably made by Consolidated Glass, or another quality glass house. We have rewired this pair of sconces in our UL shop with new porcelain sockets and rotary switches, just like the old ones. Ready to go! Measurements: Height: 11" Width: 6 ¾" overall (backplate).
