An Ancient, or Antique, Korean Brown-Glazed Ceramic Vase, A 100% Guaranteed Authentic Piece made nearly 1,000 Years Ago during the Namesake Goryeo (aka Koryo, Koryeo) Dynasty More »
An Ancient, or Antique, Korean Brown-Glazed Ceramic Vase, A 100% Guaranteed Authentic Piece made nearly 1,000 Years Ago during the Namesake Goryeo (aka Koryo, Koryeo) Dynasty of Modern-Day Korea (As the Goryeo was the first major Imperial Dynasty to rule over roughly the same area as defined by the modern boundaries of the Korean Peninsula from 918- 1392 CE.
A Rare and large glazed work of in the Classic Style of Goryeo Dynasty Stoneware Ceramics, undoubtedly authentic to the period period, which was noted for its fine Celadon and other High Temperature Kiln-Fired Ceramics, using new and innovative artistic techniques many of which were inspired by (but then also expanded upon making a style of Ceramics that was uniquely Korean) their contemporary Chinese neighbors of the Song Dynasty where the first fine Celadon Porcelain Wares were made that were then and still continue to be some of the most valued Ceramics of all time. Like Song Dynasty China, under Goryeo rule Korean Arts & Culture flourished, bringing about great innovations in the arts, particularly in the field of glazed ceramics as shown in extant vessels such as the beautiful and expertly produced example offered herein, which not only had a major, long-lasting impact on fine and decorative arts around the world which continues to influence artists to this day, but were also so finely constructed that we are lucky enough to have pieces like this vase still extant today allowing us to marvel at their beauty, see, and even own them ourselves, just as they would have looked when first made a thousand years ago and thousands of miles away!
Height: 11.5 inches
Condition: A large crack on one side was professionally repaired, leaving no issues regarding structural integrity today. The old fracture luckily did not chip or shatter and part of the vase so that it was able to be repaired without any false or missing pieces, and as such the piece is complete and appears perfectly shaped as intended; only the outline of the repaired crack is visible when inspected at close distance (at a distance of more than about 1 foot the piece appears as if there was never any damage or repair). Additionally, the repaired crack is only present on one side of the vase, leaving a "display side" available which is stunning and blemish-free. We have generously over-adjusted the list price of this Vase, reducing the price far more than what would be typical of the market in respect to the repair, allowing us to offer you this One-Of-A-Kind Ancient Korean Ceramic at a truly unbeatable price far below that of any other comparable authentic Goryeo Ceramic-Ware, particularly of this stately size, on the market today anywhere!
Provenance: Formerly of the Hashimoto Estate, A Well-Respected and Massive Private Collection, Comprised of Several Thousand Authentic Ancient to Contemporary Works of East Asian Artwork.

Antique Late 19th Century Bronze Japanese Okimono of the Immortal More »

Antique Late 19th Century Bronze Japanese Okimono of the Immortal Mythical Figure of Sennin who appears standing on Rockery, one leg raised in the traditional fashion of Sennin depictions, and holding a Gourd that is releasing a Dragon which he holds like a staff in his hands(often also depicted in wooden Japanese Netsuke). The figure is in excellent condition and has only one very minor repair in the middle of the long thin staff he is holding, which is securely attached to the Sennin in two places, and had a small fracture in the middle which was repaired without any alteration to the appearance and reinforced the strength of the piece; it is not visible unless very closely inspected. The piece is in impeccable condition overall and was constructed with an extremely fine attention to detail. It is a truly Museum-Quality example of 19th Century Japanese Bronze Okimono Art.
Sennin, a word from Middle Chinese meaning "The Immortal One" and the corresponding Japanese Tale of Gama Sennin, are derived from a 10th Century Chinese fable in which an Alchemist named Liu Hai seeks out Chan Chu, the Three-Legged Money Toad (popularly used today in Feng Shui applications), and from the Toad learns the Secrets of Immortality. The Immortal Sennin is now popular throughout Japanese culture.
Dimensions: 15" Height
Provenance: From the notable collection of a Private Collector of Asian Arts in Los Angeles.

This exquisite goddess artifact comes from the Hongshan (a.k.a. Longshan, Hong Shan) culture, an ancient agriculture-based Neolithic people, ancestors of modern Chinese culture. This carved crystal piece is an authentic ceremonial statue that is estimated to be over 4000+ years old. The Hongshan people honored the Goddess for granting fertility and abundant harvests. Crystal artifacts are extremely rare, and you will not find another piece like this for sale anywhere online.
Statue measures 8 inches (20.33 cm) long and 1.62 inches (4.1 cm) wide. She appears to be a pregnant female figure with a slight smile, kneeling in prayer with hands over her heart. Her "baby" is a strange alien-monkey-pig face protruding from her abdomen. Both have large elongated eyes. Her hair is pulled up into a forward curved bun at the crown of her head, with a bi-conical hole drilled through the side. Clearly visible concentric lines indicate the ancient hole-drilling technique using increasingly smaller sizes of reeds or bamboo. Its ancient origin is also indicated in the surface micro-degradation and pitting. It was created from a solid piece of perfectly clear quartz crystal. It is in great condition with small chips on the upper ear on both sides.
This piece has an uncanny luminous glow when touched by sunlight, and conveys a visceral feeling of power and reverence when you hold it.
More photos are available upon request.
Excavation of Hongshan burial sites and elaborate temple complexes began in the 1930s, with a number of pieces entering the market in the 1970s and 80s, however it is now extremely difficult to find authentic Hongshan artifacts for sale. There is nothing remotely similar to this piece available on the market today. I have been entrusted to find a collector for this very rare piece, recently released from the private collection a retired antiques dealer who traveled extensively through Asia several decades ago. Most Hongshan artifacts are in museum collections. Now you have the opportunity to own a mysterious and sacred relic of ancient China. « Less

A very beautiful, very detailed Chinese rosewood statue, this carving depicts an elderly Chinese fisherman who has caught a large carp (or koi). His finely carved hair is drawn up into a topknot. In his right hand he is clutching the stem of the mushroom that he's using as his parasol. Clothed in draped traditional robes, he is so happy that his eyes are squinting as he grins above his long beard. Standing in his bare feet on a plinth that has pine needle branches carved on it, this fisherman and his catch represent good fortune and abundance.*
This carving is nearly 16 inches tall, is 7 inches from front to back and 6 inches across. It weighs a little over 6 pounds and stands very steady. There are a few small age cracks and a larger one that is shown in photograph #3, but there are no repairs, chips or missing pieces. The wood has a glowing reddish brown color and lovely grain with a silky finish. This is a statue that will grace any collection.
*Note: Even though we can't see the two barbels attached to the fish's upper lip, we're calling this a carp because of its long dorsal fin, large scales and wide mouth. The Chinese word for fish sounds very similar to the character in the word which means plentiful or abundant, so the fish is a symbol of wealth. The fish you will see most often depicted is the carp or koi.

19TH CENTURY, ANTIQUE, CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN PLANTER WITH COURTYARD SCENE AND CALLIGRAPHY SCRIPT -
This antique Chinese, porcelain, jardiniere was located after the passing of my mother, along with many other antiquities and valuables of various style and era. This planter has been used, but it is still in excellent condition. There appears to be some minor cracking on the bottom, but close examination shows that this may have been done at the factory when the jardiniere was manufactured. Close up photos reveal that the cracks don't go past the top layer of lacquer and have held up for over a hundred years without getting worse. The varnish covers the small cracks, so they can't even be felt. If anything, they ad a bit of character to the bottom of the jardiniere which is otherwise pretty boring.
This Jardiniere dates back to the late 19th century, or possibly the early 20th century. It's almost impossible to tell unless you read Mandarin, or Cantonese...I don't. But, what really makes this jardiniere stand out and unusual is the Chinese calligraphy on the back side of the piece. Not much Chinese porcelain art was decorated with calligraphy, so that makes this an unusual and valuable piece. I don't know what it says, so if someone can read it can you please tell me the meaning of the words?
The ladies of the courtyard, are exceptional in their detail and beauty. The coloring of this piece is also unusual and exquisite and not something that can be found every day. It's been so well made that the lacquer can still be felt raised above the porcelain and there are no chips, scratches, or other major damage the painting. Just the cracking on the bottom, and I'm not even sure that's damage but rather may have come from the factory.
The Dimensions are 12" wide and 9" tall. The weight is approximately 5 pounds.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or if you would like to see additional photos. « Less
