Victorian, circa 1880 Glass fairy lamp with Nailsea-type fairy size dome in citron with white loopings. Sits in an embossed clear glass cup with candle holder which rests inside the cup. Maker''s mark ''S. CLARKE PATENT TRADEMARK FAIRY'' to base of cup and candle holder. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated on page 34, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob and Pat Ruf. Generally good. No restoration. Dome: Minor nibbles around the top rim. Three firing blemishes to interior.
