Two wonderfully executed watercolor paintings by listed artist, George Harlow White, 1817-1888. This watercolor is c.1857. On the back of the painting of the farmhouse the artist wrote in pen, "Askham Richard, York 1857, G. Harlow White". Each measures approximately 3 1/4" x 5" WITHOUT the frame and matting. WITH the frame and matting they measure 7 1/2" x 9 1/4". One painting depicts a thatched roof farmhouse. There are two women. One is standing in the doorway while the other is working outside. There are chickens in the foreground. The other shows a person sitting at the base of a hill. They are not signed on the front. The first picture that I described is signed on the back, G. Harlow White. George Harlow White was a member of the RCA. He also painted in England. Askam Richard is a parish in York, England, that hasn't changed much since the 18th century. Of the farmhouses and cottages around the green, five are listed buildings, mostly 18th century. By 1931 the population was still a modest 181, and Askham Richard has continued to avoid the expansion seen in many other villages. Very good condition.   « Less

Beautiful marine watercolor painting by William Frederick Paskell. Approximately 28 1/2" x 37 1/2" WITH the frame and matting. WITHOUT the frame it measures approximately 18 1/4" x 27 1/4". Signed lower left, "Wm. Paskell". Paskell is a listed American artist, 1866-1951. William Frederick Paskell was born in England on Oct. 5, 1866. He studied in Boston MA under JF DeBlois & Sanderson. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club & the Charitable Mechanics Association in Boston, 1884-1906. He worked in Cape Ann, Nantucket and New Hampshire. He travelled to Europe in the late 1880's. Died in Boston MA in 1951. He is well listed in Who's Who and Fieldings. Very good condition. Nicely framed and ready for hanging.   « Less

George Linton Herdle, American, born 1868 and died in 1922. He was a museum director, craftsperson & painter from Rochester, NY. He studied in Paris and Holland and was a member of the Rochester Art Club, Rochester Municipal Art Committee, Association Art Museum Director. This painting depicts a wonderful mountain landscape with buildings by a lake. It has a waterfall, mountain goats, sheep, a cow, boats on the water, 2 gentlemen riding on horseback and a young girl walking a goat. Samuel Lancaster Gerry, American, 1813-1891. He was President of the Boston Art Club in 1858. He was a Hudson River School painter and leader of the White Mountain School. He was co-founder of the Boston Art Club. He lived in Europe. He studied ASL. Member: NYWCC; Pittsburgh AA; Soc. Illus.; Silver Mine Guild; Norwalk founder; Westport AA. Began as journalistic illustrator working as a White House artist/correspodent for Leslie's Weekly, NY Tribune, NY World during the administrations of Wm. McKinley and Theo. Roosevelt, 1896-1904. Wonderful oil on board painting of a bull's head. Approximately 15 1/4" WITHOUT the frame. With the frame it measures 19 3/4" in diameter. This painting is very well executed and is very unusual because most paintings are either square or rectangular in shape. This one is round and it also inverted like a bowl. It has an old restoration on the back that does not show at all in the front as you can see by the photo. There also is a gallery lable that says T. Beautiful oil painting by German artist, August Mueller 1836-1885. Approximately 7 1/4" x 11" WITHOUT the frame and shadowbox. With the frame and shadowbox it measures 17" x 21". Wonderfully executed oil on board of two white chickens with a frog in their feeding bowl. Signed lower left, "Aug. Mueller, Munchen". Exhibition label on reverse. Mueller was born in Rottwell, Wurtemberg, January 13, 1836. Genre painter. Pupil of Stuttgart Art School under Rustige. He won several prizes and in 1865 settled in Munich. Even though frame is in shadowbox it is in need of repair. A few pieces broke off but are still inside shadowbox. This painting is very beautiful. It does not appear to have been out of the shadowbox but it looks like there may be some separation. Good condition.   « Less
