circa: 1820 width: 35 height: 81 length: 18 This antique carved oak bureau was hand-crafted in Georgian England around 1820. The wood has aged beautifully, developing a lovely patina that enriches the natural luster of the ebonized oak. Combined with the marvelously intricate carvings that cover the face of this piece, the result of this patina is a striking and timeless bureau that will continue to astound the eye for centuries more to come. Unique sphinx-stamped brass pulls complement the dark oak quite wonderfully; several of the handles also appear to have been replaced and are slightly different than one another. The bookcase, fall, and middle drawer still lock with an accompanying set of keys, while the top and bottom drawers no longer lock. This piece easily separates into the bookcase and bureau sections, with the top securing into the bottom with a pair of screws. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and the shaped bracket feet remain as sturdy as they are elegant. This bureau bookcase has sustained some superficial wear, including a typical assortment of old dings and marks, although most of these marks are very minor and hardly show. Several separations between the boards have, however, developed in the bureau face and sides. These separations are purely cosmetic, so they do not affect the structural integrity of the piece, and all solid wood pieces eventually see this kind of separation after about 100-200 years. The overall condition of this magnificent Georgian bureau bookcase therefore remains very good. « Less

circa: 1890 width: 44 height: 87.5 length: 21 This antique mahogany bookcase was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1890. Over the years, the mahogany developed a lovely patina that has helped to enrich the deep, lustrous complexion and the pronounced grain of the mahogany, while brass pulls contrast beautifully with the wood. The unique partial astragal glass doors look especially striking, making this bookcase quite an attractive and unusual piece. With a total of three upper adjustable shelves, two interior shelves below, and two locking drawers, this bookcase also offers plenty of storage space. Although it has sustained some surface wear, including various scuffs, fade to the finish, and a stain on the lower left door, this bookcase does remain very sturdy, so overall condition is very good. « Less

circa: 1890 width: 40 height: 72.5 length: 19.5 This stunning antique carved oak bookcase was made in England. The base appears to be older, made around 1820, and the top around the end of the 19th century. The entire piece is intricately hand carved oak with a wonderful patina. The glass door locks as well as the cabinet door at the bottom, and each has their own key. The bookcase top is unique in that each of the carved decorations on the shelves will flip up to allow you to store things that are the maximum height of the shelves. Each shelf or cubby measures 9''x9''x9''. The glass section in the middle has two stationary shelves that are affixed inside. The drawer is wide and has plenty of storage space. It is dovetailed, and does show signs of repair to the wooden runners. It slides in and out perfectly. The condition of this bookcase is very good. It has an age split to one of the decorations on the left side, a repair to the front right corner, and a repaired dent to the carved cornice. This bookcase is extremely sturdy and well built, and sure to last for generations to come! « Less

circa: 1960 width: 40 height: 76 length: 15 This elegant bow front bookcase was crafted in England around 1960 as a Georgian period reproduction. The most striking feature of this bookcase is of course the yew wood itself, which shows a lustrous complexion and a pronounced grain that have only grown more beautiful over the years. The bow front design and astragal glass moulding also look quite striking, making this bookcase quite a site to behold. The glass shelves likewise contribute to the beauty of this bookcase, ensuring that the shelves do not intrude on any aesthetic appreciation of the piece. The top and bottom doors also lock, so storage is both plentiful and secure. Although very sturdy, this bookcase has sustained some superficial wear, most notably to the veneers on the sides and lower cabinet doors, which you can see in the pictures accompanying this listing. Overall condition therefore remains very good. « Less
