The back just lane silver leaf (stunning) and the front decorated with a drapery design, all hand made in gesso ( Italian plaster) and hand painted in gold and red. A work of art!! CONDITION: Very good shape for age and use, expect normal wear, some details to the plater work. Overall shape is fantastic!! circa: 1910 width: 11 height: 35 length: 10 This charming mahogany cake stand was handmade in Edwardian England around 1910. Today, after nearly a century of aging, the mahogany has developed a lovely patina that enriches the deep, lustrous complexion and pronounced grain of the wood to produce the timeless beauty that makes antiques like this one so special. The design is also interesting, with three 9'' round tiers that flip up when not in use, reducing the total depth of the stand by 2.5''. This stand has understandably sustained some superficial wear, including various scuffs, a veneer chip in one of the feet, and very minor, superficial texturing in the veneers (see photographs for details). Structurally, however, this stand remains as sturdy as ever, so overall condition is very good.   « Less

Today, the solid wood remains as beautiful as ever, complemented as it is by the simple yet elegant tile backsplash and clear knobs. The turned legs and the stretcher that joins them also remain quite sturdy, keeping this wash stand steady and firm. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails as well, indicating fine quality. This piece has sustained general surface wear consistent with age, including wear marks, two small separations in the wood located in left and right sides of the counter, and a gap that has developed between the far right tile and the wood frame. Overall condition, however, remains very good.   « Less
