Victorian, circa 1880 Pair of Staffordshire groups with a Childhood theme which feature a girl on horseback with a boy in front, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured version. Bright gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front. Vent hole to the reverse. Book reference,''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. On the ground are two small pigs, a basket of eggs and bundles of hay. The lady is holding a baby in her arms and the man is holding a stick. Decorated all round. Generally good. No hairlines. Chips to bocage with ends recolored. Chip to basket handle. Flake to the lady''s nose, basket rim and another to one egg. A few to the vicar''s hands. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to one hay bundle. Shredded clay decoration to the tree. Dull gilt base line and decoration. Generally good. Some rubbing to gilt. Boy: Minor flaking to underside. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to underside; small firing hole to front of base. Repair to base of tree, and around waist and neck. Restored chip to side of base. Retouched flake to spill rim. Girl: No restoration. A few paint losses to the tree, skirt, shoes and hat, and both spaniels.
