George III, dated 1799 Large 1799 Silkwork Map Sampler by Sarah Pope. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards behind green mount card, on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, pale green, gold, white, pink, black and blue. Signed and dated ''Sarah.Pope 1799''. Floral and compass motifs. Depicts a map of England and Wales with surrounding seas, oceans and channels. The map includes county names and major towns within the counties. Generally Good. Several small holes. Some dark staining behind the map. Some stitch losses to the border and motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading, the silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 20ins by 16.5ins wide « Less

Victorian, dated 1856 Large 1856 Woolwork Sampler by Jane Clarkson. Framed in a wood and gilt frame with glass. Loose mounted onto card backing. The sampler is worked in wool, with a small amount of silk, on canvas ground, in backstitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours olive green, blue, light brown, dark brown, pink, light green, red and cream. Signed and dated ''Jane Clarkson Work 1856''. A good set of motifs, including a red brick house with a garden, farm animals, sheep grazing on the lawn and two swans in a pond, fruit trees, fir trees, a large flower basket, potted flowering plants, butterflies and flowers. Good. Old tack holes with staining around the edge. A few light stains and specks elsewhere. Minor stitch losses to the swans, pond and bottom of lawn. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very slight colour run around the signature threads. Unevenly stretched. Floral headdress and loin cloth draped over shoulder and over one thigh. Decorated with striking ochre, cobalt, green, brown, cream and pink glazes. Green underside with impressed ''MINTONS'' maker''s mark. Good. Tiny flakes to toes of right foot. Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to putto''s left thigh; shrinkage line to base edge.
