Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the underside. Victorian, circa 1870 Minton Majolica game pie dish and cover. Rustic handles in the form of branches bound together with rope. Four claw feet. Cream basket weave ground with a panel on either side, one with a pheasant, the other with a hare, and sprigs of holly sprouting from the handles. Cover is surmounted by a hunting dog asleep beside a rifle, powder flask and game bag. Turquoise interior. Three stilt marks and a vent hole to reverse of cover. Three stilt marks to underside of dish with impressed maker''s marks ''MINTONS'' and ''964''. Vent hole underneath the feet. Good. Dish: Small flake to rim. Some wear to interior. Repair to one foot. The fish forms the handle and spout. Fine molding and clear bright glazes. ''H. PROTAT'' incised to the base. Green glaze and three stilt marks underneath the base, along with impressed maker''s marks ''MINTON'', ''1241'' and date cipher for 1866.
