This ancient votive seal was discovered with a cache of similar artifacts along the shores of Lake Van. Evoking the dawn of Western culture, these apparently were offerings at the shrine of some powerful god. This unknown deity appears to have been associated with fertility and rebirth The design that adorns the of stood in proxy for more costly sacrifices. Pressed into soft clay or wax, they would have created multiple images to win the favor of the god. In its original silk-lined teak presentation box is this finely detailed three-footed silver bearing the hallmark of noted Canton silversmith Gem Wo and the mark of highest purity. Cast feet in neo-Rococo style contrast with the strongly Chinese elements of bamboo leaves on the border and a central stylized scene of craggy mountains rising above land and water below. Weighing about 13.5 ounces and being about nine inches in diameter and 1-1/2 inches high, the piece is an extraordinary example of China Trade merchandise. This set of three large plaques was made at the Karlsruhe Pottery. Each tile measures 13.25 inches tall and 18 inches wide. There are hanging holes that orient these horizontally, but they look good in any direction. These were designed by Fridegart Glatzle and had a production of only 5 years, 1967-1972. These really give a pop of color to a plain wall or backspalsh installaion. The condition is very good, with some scattered chips on the back edges. S11 Diamonds - the center stone 0.45-0.5carat; the two on either side about 0.25 carat. Old European cut. Fascinating design - a stylised flower with scrolls, all set with diamonds of varying sizes. The shoulders are triple branched or triple-leaved, as they are in the form of 3 leaves. Particularly beautiful setting. No hallmarks but tests as at least 18k gold. Good condition.
