Antique Pair of Art Deco Wall Sconces Attributed to Riddle Co. & Consolidated Glass Lovely Pair of Americana Slip Shade sconces. Castings can be attributed to Riddle Co., who favored designs such as these and worked in the same metal. The marvelous shades simply must be by Consolidated Lamp & Glass Co., who were the absolute best. Consolidated Lamp & Glass Co. of Coraopolis, PA was one of America's finest glass makers before and during the Great Depression. Unfortunately...Consolidated went bankrupt no less than three times during the Great Depression. They made outstanding consumer products, i.e. vases, bowls etc., and most outstanding shades and lighting. And everything that they made was the absolute BEST quality America had to offer to the world. This pair of sconces is elaborating designs from the French Exposition Des Arts Decoratifs of 1925. An interesting note about these sconces is that they were made to compete against similar sconces made by Virden 1030-5. Virden had a similar pair of sconces which are now more common than these sconces, but, we think that these sconces are far superior to the Virden design. These sconces are circa between 1931 and 1936. Measurements: * Height: 9" overall. * Width: 7" overall. * Projection: 5" from the wall into the room. These sconces have been completely re-wired, in our UL shop, with new sockets to conform to UL guidelines. Each socket is capable of accepting a 100 watt bulb...but...we would recommend LED bulbs to protect the now older glass shades. Art Deco Slip Shade Chandelier with Cut Glass Center Panels Fantastic Art Deco 1930s chandelier. This is such an unusual light, it is hard to find a place to start. First, it is a 6 light fixture. Five of the lights are on the outside on the arms, in the gorgeous frosted shades, and one is in the center behind the fine cut glass center panels. The five cut glass center panels are just plain gorgeous. They slip in from the top, and I am pleased to say that they are in mint condition with so little roughness that it is not worth discussing. The shades, for each of the arms, while being lovely embossed frosted, are also in outstanding condition, with only the most minor of roughness. The metal of the chandelier is, I believe, aluminum and some iron and steel for the main fixture metals, which has a nice ambiance of a pewter finish. Measurements: * Height: 23" overall. * Diameter: 20" overall. This chandelier has been re-wired in our UL lamp shop, with new sockets and wire, to UL standards. Each new socket can easily take a 100 watt bulb, giving a total of 600 watts of light if so desired. Of course, LED bulbs are neat, too. All a very nice appearance. We had one of these about 3 years ago...its shades were darker, but it still sold quickly, and delighted the buyer. We can see why...what a statement it makes! It is worth mentioning that the slip shades have the same pattern as the struts that hold them. We could call this design Streamline Deco without a doubt. They really do give a Streamline feeling. Nice antique finished frame with amber shades. Very striking. This fixture has six chandelier based sockets (one for each side slip shade), and one medium base socket to light the bottom shade. The contrasting metals of the backplates just scream "Streamline Deco". The contrasting cast metal frame with the nickel-plated steel elements are so very striking. Naturally, with 80 or so years of life, the nickel is not perfect and has very minor imperfections. Just goes with the age. But even these age marks are not serious, and do not affect the overall impact of the sconces. The cut crystal ruby shades are really quite lovely when lit. Comes complete with nice crystal drops below. With a strong bulb, they give an ambiance that is just lovely. Not easy to find quality like this. The contrast of the BRASS body is quite striking. These sconces have a rich formality, and yet just have so much nice detail. So unusual, and so striking. It could, if desired, be mounted with a pull chain for Off/On at the fixture. Or it can be used with a dimmer wall switch. It was produced during the true Art Deco era, but in the Streamline design motif. Circa 1930, this fixture was originally sold as both a close ceiling fixture, and with a stem for a longer drop. It would have nicely graced a home in the 30s with authentic, iconic suitability. The frame has a pewter finish. They have interesting simple opal shades that has a simple band of rings. The shades are rather small, so a large light bulb will protrude. We suggest a shorter bulb with an E26 size base (common household base). Measurements: * Height: 9" * Width: 4 ½" (maximum) * Projection: 4 ½" from the wall into the room. This light comes from the series that Moe Bridges called the Croydon Series. The series was always made in cast iron, and finishes were red bronze and nickel...sometimes with touches of blue and red highlights. The shades are in outstanding condition with only the slightest roughness around the fitters...not seen after mounting.
