Antique vase made in Teplitz by the RSTK Amphora company, last decade of the 19th century. Measures 5 1/2 inches high. Wide bulbous body with slender neck flaring out at the rim. Ground is an earthy tone with pink/red/orange and shades of blue glaze. The front has a handpainted portrait of an Art Nouveau woman ''s head in profile - hair whiplashing about in typical Art Nouveau style. She is surrounded by a continuous frieze of flowers - small white blossoms, large anemones and frilly foliage. Dark cobalt blue glaze in contrast to the rich white enamelling and generous gold highlights and outlines. Gilding so thick that it takes the form of ''jewels'' in many places. Beautiful, fine detail to flowers. Marked underneath with impressed 12 and 430. A burnt-red factory mark is partly worn, but legible enough to be clearly identified as the first mark used by the RSTK factory between 1893 and 1903. Very good condition. No chips/cracks/restoration. The identical vase can be seen in the book on Amphora by Richard L Scott (page 84): Model 1894-5, #476. Painting probably Nikolaus Kannhauser. Ivory porcelain. Celadon glaze. Woman''s head with daisies and poppies. .... Status: For Sale Reference#: 3447 Condition: good Year: 1895 Title: RSTK TEPLITZ AMPHORA VASE W MAIDEN HEAD ENAMEL GILDING « Less

Rookwood Art Pottery vase in Standard glaze, artist signed ST for Sarah ''Sallie'' Alice Toohey, who worked at Rookwood 1887 - 1931. Shape 481. Measures 9 1/2 inches high. More »
Rookwood Art Pottery vase in Standard glaze, artist signed ST for Sarah ''Sallie'' Alice Toohey, who worked at Rookwood 1887 - 1931. Shape 481. Measures 9 1/2 inches high. Round body with very long neck, flaring at the top to a ruffled rim. Rim has double impressed wavy border on the inside. Ground colours are mustard/golden yellow through orange to mahogany browns. Slip decorated and enamel painted flowers, stems and foliage. Stems form a delicate pattern below flowers that are soft and creamy and deep, organic green leaves. The match between design of painting, shape and ground colours seems to be strongly influenced by Japanese art of the time. Each element subtley echoes the others. Marked underneath with impressed Rookwood mark for 1891; shape #431; experimental mark (dot); W (which apparrently indicated instruction for white glaze). Incised initials S with T through it for Sallie Toohey. Also a large impressed X, which was another of the enigmatic experimental marks. condition: good. The usual crazing for Rookwood pottery of this age. A tiny hairline/kiln crack on the rim does not detract from the piece (approx 1/4inch long). Please enquire about extra ''photos. Status: For Sale Reference#: 2981 Condition: good Year: 1890 Title: ROOKWOOD ART VASE SIGNED SARAH TOOHEY 1891 « Less

Moulded blue and white Delft vase. Could be made in Holland or England - both Dutch and English Delft were made at the time and are not easy to differentiate, although the painting on this item might lean towards the Engish. Dates to 18th century. Measures 7 1/4 inches high. Long, cylindrical vase flaring outwards towards the rim. Moulded form. Additional decoration in the form of delicate painting an exotic bird / peacock sits amidst a variety of branches, foliage, flowers and berries. Very delicate painting and range of blue tones. While there is typical fine crazing on a piece of this age, the vase is otherwise in very good condition. The top rim has sight roughness to the glaze (again, as one can expect), but no chips/cracks. Made by the Belleek factory in Ireland, this vase bears the 2nd black mark used from 1891 to 1926. Measures: 3 1/2'' high and 4 1/8'' from side to side. Superbly modelled, classic Belleek vase. Very organic in form. Deeply scalloped edges , twisting folds and modelled ripples on the surface. The outside is further decorated with a plethora of encrusted flowers, each miniscully detailed and fragile. While the flowers on the front are roses (in full bloom and in bud), the back has 3 simple Irish clovers. Mark: 2nd black mark for Belleek - says Fermanagh, Ireland. condition: I could not find a single chip or crack. There is a yellow mark inside the piece, but it appears to be original to the firing and is not a flaw. Status: For Sale Reference#: 450 Condition: See Description Year: See Description « Less
