Very large Edwardian inlaid wood marquetry serving tray. Made in England first decade of the 20th century. Total width is 26 3/4 inches, including the handles. Distance accross is about 14 inches. Kidney shaped tray with brass handles on either end. Main wood is believed to be mahogany and the inlays are a variety of coloured fruit woods. A string of cream-coloured wood is inlaid about 1 inch from the rail/guard. Inlay consists of scrolling botanical subjects showing strong Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movement influence. Underneath the tray has old velt to protect table surfaces. Surface has wonderful patina and is extremely pleasing aesthetically. Condition is very good with some minor negligible wood splitting on the rail due to age and natural wood shrinkage. Victorian large silver plate serving piece for fish, pate, cake or pie. Made in England, 19th century and signed by both James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield and James Deacon and SOns, Sheffield.Seymour Wyler called Dixon an outstanding producer of electroplated wares (page 35 in his book on Sheffield and electro plate).Measures 15 1/2inches from end to end.Rounded rectangular shaped lifter with raised side to prevent food from falling off. The surface is beautifully engraved with a forest scene of birds amongst trees and flowers. Very fine detail. Triangular join of handle with arched neck leading to a repousse silver terminal with moulded foliage. The main part of the handle is moulded like a horn (or natural horn?) to give a good grip as well as increase the aesthetic appeal. The other terminal is similarly modelled. The back of the server has engraved hallmarksJD&S (James Dixon and Sons). EP over GS and a lamp, the mark for James Deacon and Sons.. Condition is very good. Signed bronze and gold card tray / dish with sculpture Native American head & feathered headdress. France late 19th early 20th century.Dish itself Measures 4X3 1/8inches, excluding the protruding head. Total measurements are 4 1/4 X 4inches. Tray is rectangular, made of bronze in a rich brown. Sides curve up and the top and outside is richly gilded. Over half the tray is covered by a gilded relief sculpted American Indian (Native American) head, seen in profile. The modelling is outstanding with high cheekbones, a strong, curved nose and downward looking eyes. He wears fabulous jewelry, including hooped earrings and disks hung from his headdress. The huge feathered headdress shows off each feather and it''s details.Engraved signature H.B.Excellent condition.
