Some of those makers were employees at Pal-Bell and after a few years of 'learning the business' they opened their own workshop. Oppenheim was already known prior to the 1950s and made items marked: "Hand Made in Palestine". Later they bought Pal-Bell from Moshe Klein and continued some product lines using Pal-Bell's moulds and their new logo.During the transition period, we may see items marked with both logos and some have no marking at all, but the items were made by using the original Pal-Bell moulds. There are many original items made by Pal-Bell, not marked or not listed in the catalogues. « Less

This short sword is worn by the peoples of Djibouti and adjacent areas of Ethiopia and Somalia. The nicely carved wood hilt is adorned with patinated brass tacks and an inverted brass cone at the pommel. The curved blade appears to have been made from a metal wagon or car spring. The natural leather scabbard and belt are very dry from age. The original scabbard seems to have been sewn up the back with a piece of fine wire, as can be seen in the photo of the throat. In very good but dry overall condition. First half of the 20th C. Overall length. 17.5", blade 12.25", hilt 5". « Less

Acquired in Moscow in the early 1990's, this knife was represented to us as issue to the Tactical Soviet Air Force in the 1970's and early 80's. We have never been able to verify this as fact nor have we found a similar knife in the western market. The Knife itself is very high quality with a stainless steel like quality. The wedge shape has both a cutting edge on one side of the blade as well as across the shovel like, squared end. The back of the blade appears to have a serial number. The grey handle is well made of a quality, plastic like material and has a lanyard attached. The grey nylon scabbard has a velcro closure and a belt loop as well as a nylon cord. The military looking markings are shown. This is by far the best quality survival knife I have encountered. Would appreciate any additional information or reference. Overall length in scabbard 14.25", blade 9.25" and hilt 4.75" 1970's to early 1980's. « Less

A war axe or saddle axe called Tabar from the hill tribes of eastern and north eastern India. A sturdy iron head inlayed with three brass bands at the throat of the blade and two or three bands, now missing at the back of the collar. In addition there are a group of four pyrimid shaped stamps, them selves formed into a kind of pyrimid forward of the brass ornamentation. The axe head has good form, the iron is dark with age and it shows wear from lengthy use. The wood haft is crudely formed and although showing wear and body oil from use, is undoubtedly a later replacement. 16" in overall length, head is 6" wide from back of the collar to the edge of the blade and blade 4.75" wide « Less
